All better, and rewrite rules are all working now too, I think.

This issue of links from mozilla.org is in Bugzilla now https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278625 but as that bug says, the best solution would be for Mozillazine Admins to make the old URLs work

asqueella wrote:kerz, could you please add a rewrite http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml (old wiki) -> http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.php ? There are quite a few links in forums and in the web that link to old wiki, now they all are 404. The redirect from kb-upgrade would be nice too, although not as important.
I've been posting about this for a while too.
<a href="http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=202080=">http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=202080</a>
<a href="http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=199863">http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=199863</a>
I also edited my messages to correct the links.
If it can't be fixed, could we have a sticky?

kerz, could you please add a rewrite http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml (old wiki) -> http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.php ? I have moved over to using the new version now, as it has a basic skin on it. More to come.

After just reverting the KB homepage after some support question hijkacked it, I would like to express empathy with 'me at work.'
I'm happy to have a go at skinning if it would be any help.

What's the best way to notify somone (hao2lin by the looks of things) about vandalism, or get rights to block vandals?

When will it be fixed? :(

kb upgrade is also broken when i try to edit a redirected page, lets put it like this (it happened when i clicked the link to the thunderbird faq on hotmail yahoo and other webmails, from Thunderbird_:_FAQs, and i'm explaining it easier)

I click a link from page [[Start]], and i get to page [[Redirect]], which sends me to [[End]]. If I click edit, as the top still says that the page is Redirect, I actually edit the redirect page. This is wrong, because I'm on the new page, but because the mod-rewrite is so broken, it edits the wrong page. An example of editing a [[End]] page while having [[Redirect]] in the titlebar would easily be found on Wikipedia. That happens to be one, it is [[Community Portal]], which redirects to [[Wikipedia:Community Portal]].

If you were to edit the page while you were there, you would actually edit [[Wikipedia:Community Portal]]. The only way to edit a redirect page is to click the words Community Portal in the line:

(Redirected from Community Portal)

This would allow you to not be redirected when you visit a redirect page.

Another broken? You can't login. http://kb-upgrade.mozillazine.org/Thund ... bird_:FAQs just doesn't do anything at all, I had to replace Thunderbird_:_FAQs with index.php to make it work.

If you're going to use mod_rewrite, please make sure it works, or don't use it at all, because I'd rather see index.php/Thunderbird_:_FAQs than a broken wiki. That's just my opinion though.

Actually kb-upgrade is quite broken now. The issue I complained about in my above post also applies to "red" and toolbox links :( Hope you'll find time to fix it soon.

very slow. it's very slow :(

me at work wrote:Are we going to have some kind of moderation, i.e. the banning of vandals? Right now it's so easy for vandals to just add the most bogus stuff to pages, and I've seen it happening on subpages of the Mozilla Materials project. I've posted the first one I came across on the page "Vandalism", with his contribs link and an example of his vandalism. There were also people adding fake languages to one of the subpages, and I'm quite sure this is vandalism, or a poor joke (which would be vandalism anyway...).

it's been done

by asqueella » December 18th, 2004, 9:10 pm

thanks kerz. Am I right in thinking that you'll make the new wiki default as soon as you have a decent skin for it?

edit: looks like the links for non-existent categories are now broken, like this one: http://kb-upgrade.mozillazine.org/Dev_:_Javascript_variables?title=Category:Javascript&action=edit (so Category:Javascript actually goes to Dev_:_Javascript_variables&action=edit). And is it just me or wiki is dead slow?

by peter.reisio » December 18th, 2004, 9:09 pm

I'll give it a run, but http://kb-upgrade.mozillazine.org/Templates/ seems empty.

Should I just wing it off http://kb-upgrade.mozillazine.org/Main_Page ? You want it to basically _look_ like the 'old' KB, but use the basic structure of the new one, right?

by kerz » December 18th, 2004, 8:49 pm

We can still use help styling it, but because no one has really come up with something good, we've added it to our plans to do. As far as mod rewrite, i'll fix the links to leave out the index.php, but you'll note it already redirects them after clicking them.

So there's no more need for someone to style it?
