Just for the record, I was having the EXACT same problem for several HOURS in a row! Not only is that a perfect example of how to design a BROKEN capcha, but at least for me, it was not the only part of the login process that is super broken. The other part is the login process's "counter".
It's been a while since I last came/logged in here, so when I first tried to login (today), I accidentally entered my email instead of my username (which is exactly the same as the first part of my email) & also my current password (for other sites, not this one). After my first login attempt failed (which my rusty memory was expecting), I remembered both my correct username & password. However, starting with my 2nd login attempt, the site claimed that I had already exceeded the number of allowed login attempts, & kept on insisting that my (now) correct username & password were wrong just because of that brain damaged capcha
I hope that somebody manages to contact whoever it is who does have the needed access to fix that stupid capcha.
