Can't clear unread status

Post by DN123ABC »

I try to log in, and do, but then when I refresh, it is logged out again. Any topics I've read show up unread again. Also, an "Allow" button shows up at the top of the page, which I hit, but it does not really seem like everything is working, or talking correctly. I'm guessing it is either a cookies thing, or maybe something to do with https, which I thought I read was new here.

Any ideas?

There are some suggestions in the Mozillazine is now https thread this forum, this appears to be a wandering issue.
Sometimes one thing will work another time it closes out.
Accessing areas like the User control panel not only needs cookies, then again maybe not but there's some nonsense with Google anal-itical and some AWS advertising interference.
Best guess at this point is be patient and try things along the way.
Doesn't matter what you say, it's wrong for a toaster to walk around the house and talk to you

It's a known problem.
There are quite a few new glitches with the site now.

Try checking the "Log me on automatically each visit" option when logging into the site. That option keeps me logged in.

Snake4 has the same issue as me: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14912550

Something changed with the site in December 2021. I never had to use that option before.

I don't know what you mean by the "Allow" button.

Edit:

I'm using the HTTP version.

Well, one glitch has a good working solution - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14903331

...and for the one in this thread? - Just use the http version of mozillaZine - http://forums.mozillazine.org/ ...er, just like since 1998. That still works as it always has. i.e. there are 2 versions of mozillaZine now running in parallel, a http version and a glitchy https version.

This 'Can't clear unread status' problem was caused by this site going to https without, I reckon, the right cookie configuration and will no doubt eventually get fixed.

It puts in the httpS by itself, so this does not work consistently.

I find I have to click "Allow" up above, and sometimes if you hit it soon/fast enough, that works.

Try it again maybe with cookies cleared or something (about:config setting?)

It added the 's' to the http just on one day for me since mid December and has always been http before and after that, including now.

As you can imagine, I wouldn't have suggested it unless it consistently worked.

Notes : This also may help people - https://stackoverflow.com/questions/305 ... s-to-https
Go to about:config
Look for browser.fixup.fallback-to-https and set it to false
Hard for me to tell as, er, I'm not on Firefox. ;)

Seems better. Not sure if it was the site or Firefox.
