Avatar uploading?
Yesterday it seemed to be impossible to upload an avatar from a local disk.
I'm just posting this message to check if it really didn't work (apologies if I shouldn't have done that here).
An avatar can be just a picture in jpg or gif format, not larger than 120 pixels and 6 kB in size?
How can one upload an avatar from a different location? I can't find/don't know the location/path of a directory with my provider, though I do have space for a homepage.
Any temporary host location available?

Use Opera or K-Meleon
Sorry, but I'm getting a bit confused. I do use IE to read/write in this forum. And also to modify my Profile which is where I tried to upload the avatar.
Uhm, maybe you could elucidate (procedure etc.)?
Thanks!!

I'm getting a bit confused, too! What, if anything, do you use Mozilla/Firebird for?Dodo2U wrote:I'm getting a bit confused. I do use IE to read/write in this forum. And also to modify my Profile which is where I tried to upload the avatar.
I think it's a fair question.

Sure! The answer to that is: I do not!
I started using ThunderBird a week ago and my questions and remarks sofar are related to TB.
Because of my positive experience with TB compared to other mailers I used, I started considering to take FireBird as the browser alternative.
So, I'm still trying to get more insight into the pros and cons of using FB rather than IE. I think any alternative to MS is pro anyhow but I want to know what the differences are in functionality before I switch over.
Can you indicate where I can find any help in getting an avatar under my name?

You can run both IE and Firebird on the same machine and installing Firebird in Windows is very easy. I suggest you download a copy (get a recommended nightly build rather than a final) and compare for yourself.
As for adding an avatar, just click on the Profile link on the right of your screen.

Right! That's what I tried but uploading from a local disk doesn't work, apparently.
And I don't know how to do it through a URL.

confirming some problems with avatars recently
For what it's worth, I had a lot of trouble loading my avatar these last couple of days (it had been up previously but was slightly over the 6k limit which is maybe why it disappeared), though I just was able to upload it from a url (the current image is smaller). I haven't been able to upload recently from disk with either firebird or ie.
If you have a home page, do you have a directory to which you can upload images? If so, and you can open the image online in the browser, the URL that appears in the address bar when you open the image is where you need to upload your mozillazine avatar from.

That's what I expected.
The path like ftp://username:password@members.chello.nl/image shows the pic in the browser (both IE and FB).
When I type the same path in the URL field under profile, I get a message that no connection can be made to that URL.
So it either cannot accept a path with a username and a password in it or it doesn't function at all.
Any graphic in jpg or gif format could be used? As long as it does not exceed the 120 pixels H/V and 6 kB limits, that is.

Well, I had trouble with an ftp address, though I may have entered it wrong. Does the same space have an http address? If so, that may work better for you.
One other thing I noticed when I was having problems: The size in bites of an image as it was reported in my directory list was not necessarily the same as the size reported in "properties" in, say, a photoediting program. So that some files that I thought were within the 6K limit were apparently not.

It's a 4,25 kB GIF at 120x103 (HxV).
I cannot find it through a HTTP:// address.
Hope to get some inspiration.

In this thread they mention two sites where you could put the avatar.
