this error in the JavaScrip Console.
you need to set:
  • javascript.options.showInConsole ---> true
  • javascript.options.strict ---> true

I went looking for the "Mods: spam" thread and couldn't find it. I don't know if the link in this thread is spam but for some reason the sides of the thread that lists the suspect thread are blown out. I've been running into this blown out thread sides more frequently. I have my profile and config set appropriately to shrink but in some cases it seems not to shrink to the right size. I recently upgraded to 1.04.

This long URL stretches the screen (<English correct?)... large images have the same effect.

OK, didn't know the URL's did that, just thought the images did. English is fine, but I'm American and the English may take umberage? :biggrin:

It seems that a fair number of people have problems with their computers, and as they have Firefox set as their default browser, if something is wrong, they immediately blame Firefox.

Do these problems get handled in Firefox Support? While a lot of us downstairs may not know all that much about solving Firefox/Mozilla/Thunderbird problems, a number of us do build/configure our own computers, so we do know a little bit about how they work.

Is a area where these problems can be handled an option, and I don't mean Mozillazine Tech, as a lot of the people are guests and cannot post there.

If a long URL stretches the screen, you can use the bookmarklet mentioned earlier to shrink it, but if it's a large image doing it, you can't. I wish it could be fixed so you didn't need to use the bookmarklet, I'm always forgetting I used it and wasting time typing replies in the quick-reply window that I can't submit.

Emoticon insert

Post by Lightwind »

Maybe not really a "problem", but I noticed that emoticons will not be inserted at the current caret position but rather just appended to the end.

I think the problem is the javascript in <code>posting_smilies.tpl</code> that only works as intended for IE.

Now, instead of the original

Code: Select all

function emoticon(text) {
  text = ' ' + text + ' ';
  if (opener.document.forms['post'].message.createTextRange && opener.document.forms['post'].message.caretPos) {
    var caretPos = opener.document.forms['post'].message.caretPos;
    caretPos.text = caretPos.text.charAt(caretPos.text.length - 1) == ' ' ? text + ' ' : text;
    opener.document.forms['post'].message.focus();
  } else {
    opener.document.forms['post'].message.value  += text;
    opener.document.forms['post'].message.focus();
  }
}

something like

Code: Select all

/**
* Inserts text (at caret position, if possible) into
* the "message input" textarea
* Parameters:   text  -  text string to insert
* Returns: -
*/
function emoticon(text) {
  text = ' ' + text + ' ';
  var txtarea = opener.forms['post'].message;
  if (!txtarea) { return; }
  if (txtarea.createTextRange && txtarea.caretPos) {
    // IE-style caret position access
    var caretPos = txtarea.caretPos;
    caretPos.text = caretPos.text.charAt(caretPos.text.length - 1) == ' ' ? text + ' ' : text;
  } else if (typeof(txtarea.selectionStart) != 'undefined') {
    // Mozilla-style caret position access
    var startPos  = txtarea.selectionStart;
    var endPos    = txtarea.selectionEnd;
    txtarea.value = txtarea.value.substring(0, startPos)
                  + text
                  + txtarea.value.substring(endPos, txtarea.value.length);
    txtarea.selectionStart = txtarea.selectionEnd = endPos + text.length;
  } else {
    // fall-back: Just append to the end...
    txtarea.value += text;
  }
  txtarea.focus();
}

should also make it work in Mozilla-based browsers.

...and enables bbcode or emoticons if you disable them. I think it needs a bit of work ;)
