You should know that in German a "Narr" (englich fool) is not identical with "idiot".
e.g. "Till Eulenspiegel" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Till_Eulenspiegel ) was a "Narr" but no idiot.
Simply spoken a Narr is playing pranks to teach other people and get away with it playing the idiot.
A King's fool is/was not just a jester to entertain but also a person (sometimes the only person) allowed to criticize the king.
