How to make edits at kb.mozillazine.org

Post by lindsayad »

Hi all, I was wondering how I can make edits on the wiki pages at kb.mozillazine.org? Specifically, I wanted to edit this page, (for at least my version of thunderbird, the path to removing your passwords is different than that outlined in the article): http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_and_changing_email_passwords

Understandably, I need to login in order to edit the wiki. I created my account following the link near the top of the MozillaZine Site Discussion forum. As you can hopefully see from this post, I successfully created an account. However, when I go back to the wiki page to try and make my edits, I cannot log-in. My user name is lindsayad. When I try to login, it comes back and tells me that there is no user named "Lindsayad". I guess I can imagine there are two issues: 1) the user name is case sensitive. I don't know how to fix this because when I type in "lindsayad", the page seems to think I typed "Lindsayad" 2) I need additional authentication before I can edit the wiki?

Frankly, I'm a little baffled

Separate accounts are required for the Knowledge Base (it's not a Wiki) and the forums themselves.

That page has bee updated to provide the menu paths for Mac and Linux as well as the Windows path original offered.

Unfortunately due to vandalism of the KB in the past the access has been restricted to people who have a known history. No offence meant
What sort of man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter.

The policy was changed last year. Just submit a post in the knowledge base sticky thread at viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2825891 requesting a knowledge base account, with a brief explanation of what you'd like to (initially) edit/create. Basically we want to sanity check that you understand what the knowledge base is for. In the past we've had people request an account to ask for help (which is what the forums are meant for).

I'd create an account for you right now, but the knowledge base is temporarily down.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries was one of the most vandalized articles that got edited frequently by people who thought it changed their Firefox settings and those who thought some setting they found somewhere for a preference(s) was proper for the default. This made it so new accounts needed to made the way it is now.

The mozillaZine KB works now.

Alright, next time I feel like I have something to contribute, I will post in the kb sticky thread as described. Thanks!
