seriously - mod(s) using outdated firefox versions?

Post by Brummelchen »

with all my respect for your work but i cant take this for real. Why?
or just an UA fake? Here?

you guys and girls should be a symbol at this point and if people use even more outdated firefox version, regardless the OS, some should point it out.

(maybe there is a reason why noscript shows issue)

Cheers.

PS no ua fake for me, my current is 47.0.1 but not my default browser

Hi,
If....you're referring to mine, then there's no need to pursue the matter.
(Shhhh, Don't tell anyone, but I'm actually running version 20. :) )

Why?
Because it's all set up exactly as I like & this is not possible with any of the "newer" versions.
They're absolute rubbish.

can you provide details why you name them "rubbish"?

i have my first worry with v47 now, there is a solution but less time to work it out for me. at least i care more about my security - weather LUA or not - than functionality. you can also find me at wilderssecurity and do read a lot of exploits and that stuff. and there are critical issues with each new version.

i dont tell you BS

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/4 ... easenotes/
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/4 ... easenotes/

what do you think now?
there is actually no antivirus solution against common exploits which act in memory (payload free) and ad-blockers cannot catch it too alltime. the critical issues in firefox also need no scripts to perform, they just happen. thats why script blockers are also pretty useless.
then there's no need to pursue the matter
50/50
some people could think "he is mod he knows what he is doing"

i have mad similare statement in another thread - concerning a "strange" dude, my understanding for the topic to delete, was maybe the wrong place.

Details on why I prefer to use version 20?
Well, it took me so long & many Q's to find the answers I needed to get Firefox to look like I wanted.
(I had a lot of assistance from the very knowledgeable members of this forum.)

These included...
1/. Setting the text to my liking across all the Tool Bars/Tabs.
2/. Getting rid of the un-necessary large spacing in the Bookmarks Drop Down.
3/. Removing/modifying the spacing in the Status Bar, concerning the extensions favicons & their text intruding into the main window.
4/. Maintaining a consistent colour in ALL the Tool Bars.
5/. I have a few extensions that only function correctly in this version. (No substitutes available.)

The list goes on.
I know about the "Dangers of using an old/er version."

My PC....My choice....My problem.

Stay safe.

ps. H%*@....We've even seen people on here that persist in running version 3.6 or so.

currently on firefox 47

too bad for you that there exist no solution, so our positions would never meet this way - and this would be also for others here.
3.6 - i know also some outside mzine and running with full purpose. also people with xp sp2 which is highly vulnerable and i call it more than luck that those were not hit (remember my words concerning exploits vs security software).

well, yes it makes some work from version to version - and in fact i await the big break when xul is gone, but that is another story - but i would say that the amount of users with outdated and vulnerable firefox version will increase rapidly.

version 20 heh? if you dont fool be - i was quite happy when australis went final. i had a special minimal theme which made me get grey hair each update. since then i use only small stylish file (with stylish) based on my theme. and for good i dont need pay much attention on it. my programming part takes much more time.
My PC....My choice....My problem.
not from my view - the chance you get infected is much higher than me - and i only speak for firefox. even when you have some (useless) security software running - you wont be able to recognize it and that time your pc will act as zombie and that will have impact to other computers in the web. agree?

No.
It's my choice.
I have many versions that I can choose to run at any time.

Locking this as it is totally off-topic to Site Discussions and, ultimately, pointless. It's the user's choice which version of the software they run, all we can do is offer information on what negative effects older versions may have on their use of the program. Anyone with real knowledge of the software, like Limpet, is already aware of the issues so there's not benefit in pursuing the issue here.
