Problem with the forum
When I post a reply to a message, then click the Allow button to allow the page to reload to show my new post, I get this error message:
"Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to forums.mozillazine.org:80. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem."
Why does this forum not work to allow the reload? If I simply go back to the page and use Shift-reload, then I see my new message.

Re: Problem with the forum
The http://forums.mozillazine.org/ works fine. The https://forums.mozillazine.org that was enabled not long ago can have issues that http:// does not have.

Re: Problem with the forum
The forum is not configured properly. All redirects go to "https://forums.mozillazine.org:80/..." which is invalid. After creating a new thread or logging in, I always land on that wrong URL now and have to fix it myself.
Board admin, please fix the configuration and simply remove that unnecessary ":port" part.
PS: Even replying to a thread causes that redirect after submitting, so everybody is affected!

Re: Problem with the forum
"We" can do absolutely nothing about the forum errors.
It's up to the OSU guys that are handling things at present.
Please read both of the "Announcements" at the top of each forum.

Re: Problem with the forum
If "we" as any of the board users can do nothing about the board setup, I guess this forum is lost and will eventually die from technical failure.
I've read the other pages you linked to. I know that this forum isn't operated by Mozilla. I know what ports are and how HTTPS operates internally. And I know what the code of a web forum does. I did all of that myself. I don't know what or who "OSU" is. And I didn't know that this forum has no admin, if I got that right.
Well, it seems like unencrypted requests remain unencrypted so everything works if you go down that route. I'm just not used to using unencrypted websites anymore, so I assumed that https is the way to go, not http. I initially accessed this domain through my bookmark which already has https and I haven't changed that for months, so https support can't be all that "recent". My impression is more like the recent event is https breaking.

Hi,
Yep. "We" means all of the current moderators.
There's no Administrator at present.
For ref; > http://www.mozillazine.org/about/
Oh yes. About your bookmark "https".
Get rid of that one & just use "http", as it works fine.

There is as the person(s) (at OSU) currently using the osuadmin account has been working on the Knowledge Base and will be working on Forums when they can. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14946842LIMPET235 wrote:There's no Administrator at present.

Re: Problem with the forum
I would like to add to this discussion, because I had the same problem. I tried and checked myself, although I'm not a technical person whatsoever. I've registered this morning and encountered the Secure Connection Failed issue.LIMPET235 wrote:Hi,

After trying several times, I deleted the 's' from 'https://' in the link. That worked and I received the registration confirmation.
The link to go to this forum wouldn't work either. The addressline (https://forums.mozillazine.org:80/index.php?sid=...) noted "not secure" and resulted in the same error message as above.
I'm a slow learner, but again I deleted the 's' from 'https://' and surprisingly this worked: The forum was started, and the address was changed in 'https://' again, but now I noticed the ':80' additive was disappeared (index.php?sid=...).
It was clear that removing ':80' out of the given link was working evenly well. In addition to my predecessor above I too think the problem is this additive. However, the site seems to be secure.
I've read this thread and I'm surprised the link to this forum couldn't be corrected forever? Who benefits from it?

Re: Problem with the forum
I'd like to also note that the banner image that links to forums.mozillazine.org links to the https version, even if you are on the http version. The mozillaZine in the upper left of the page. Or above the sidebar.

Re: Problem with the forum
I was pointing it out because for a long time I kept ending up on the https version even though I knew I was trying to use the http version and couldn't figure out why. I happened to notice the switch one day after it happened and backtracked my steps until I figured out where it came from. Thought it might be handy to note here so others knew how they might have ended up using the https even though all their bookmarks and whatnot where http only.

Both can be bookmarked in the toolbar.
