I wish there were some method by which regular users could "raise a flag" or something to a forum's moderator that a particular discussion is off topic. There are quite a few in the Mozilla section that are about Phoenix and should be moved - but unless a moderator reads every discussion on a regular basis they may not know that they need to do anything...

BTW: The only moderator for any of the Mozilla forums is Asa. Is that too much work for one person who's legitimately busy with other things?

P.S. I'd be happy to volunteer as (for now anyway) co-moderator of the MozillaZine/Builds, Mozilla/Bugs, Mozilla/Features and Mozilla/General forums (these are the only ones I follow) if that would let me move off topic discussion elsewhere.

The amount of Phoenix-related spam in the Mozilla forums is just amazing. Don't people read before they post? Are they just too lazy to scroll down half a page? These people are especially getting on my nerves as they do not, of course, mention the fact that this is a phonix-related post in the subject - and sometimes not even in the posting itself.

Maybe it would help *a bit* to change the group heading of the Mozilla forums from "Mozilla" to "Mozilla - NOT PHOENIX you moron, please post your Phonix topics a bit further down, can't you read, jeez" or something

This forumsoftware (commercial, http://www.vbulletin.com/) has a "Report this post to a moderator" link attached to every post. Maybe something that's easily implemented in phpBB?

I've been a forum moderator for many years and my conclusion is a resounding NO.

The amount of Phoenix-related spam in the Mozilla forums is just amazing. Don't people read before they post? Are they just too lazy to scroll down half a page? Look at the numbers of posts and views in the Phoenix forums compared to those in all the others. Phoenix fans are clearly in the majority here. We should have our own forums instead of being a subset of Mozilla-zine.

To the left of this msg you will see that I am called a "Mozilla Addict", or something like that. That's not a title I would choose for myself. "Phoenix Phan Club" would be more like it!

Okay, more seriously, how did Phoenix get such a following in only abuot 2 months time? Mozilla activity in Mozillazine just wasn't that busy over the summertime, and then in September or so, *boom*... it's like Phoenix was distributed with a new version of a reborn Napster or something...

But seriously, I do think many were waiting for someone to take the first step to cut out the bloat from Moz and actually do something usefull with the XUL (the drag and drop customatization is really nice)

I dont see what all the "bloat" fuss is about. IMO they took out features and configuration options - why should I get excited about that? The toolbar customization thing is *very* nice though.

If you really want to use a completely bloatless Gecko browser why not go with TestGtkEmbed? An URL entry box, for buttons, a tiny menu bar menu, and absolutely no context menu, that's what I call lean

They also do things better, like popup blocking for one. In general they seem to care about the UI as opposed to the main mozilla branch where the UI can be broken in areas for years - even with a patch waiting to go in.

I believe that I've read every post that's been made in the new forums (and I was pretty up on the old ones too) and I don't think "amazing" really fits here. How is it "amazing" that there were 6 or 7 phoenix specific topics out of about 115 total topics in the Mozilla forums. Maybe the Mozilla forums should be moved to the bottom of the list where they're less likely to get unintended traffic.

Looks like I am more easily amazed
Personally I would like to see the Mozilla forums move to the bottom if it avoids helps to avoid Phoenix offtopic posts.
On the other hand this would even more indicate MozillaZine to really become PhoenixZine which I would *not* like that much, being the old-fashioned, feature-hungry, bloat-loving Mozilla fan.
