Hidden preferences don't stick

Post by pr1 »

I tried to set few hidden proxy settings and these settings work, but after restart of Camino, settings don't work anymore.

In about:config, settings are reverted back, but in prefs.js settings are the way i changed them.

Thanks

You shouldn't be editing prefs.js; you should be editing (and probably creating, since it doesn't exist by default) user.js.

In this particular case, you should also make sure Camino isn't set to use your system proxy settings, which it does by default.

Sounds like you're writing invalid pref syntax; lots of sites on the web that offer help with setting proxy prefs, especially those that instruct you to edit prefs.js or user.js, have errors in their instructions. See Camino's instructions here. Before you do that, though, quit Camino and remove the changes you made to prefs.js.

You shouldn't be editing user.js, either; doing that leads to bad things down the road (and you should delete that file if it does exist, while Camino is not running). Instead, use about:config as described on the Hidden Preferences documentation.
