Chimera downloads .sit files as .hqx files!?

Post by Suurballe »

I have a strange problem: When I download a .sit file it is saved on my harddisk as a .hqx file with the result, that StuffIt Expander isn't able to unstuff the file.

Am I doing something wrong?

That is an odd issue. There are some ftp servers (including AppleShare IP and the mutant WU-FTPD that ships with Mac OS X Server) that will automatically binhex files that have resource forks, so that might be what you are seeing. Apple ships an Apache mod_macbinary in X Server that does the same thing for http. Though even if they were being macbinarized on the fly they should still decompress, so maybe that is not it at all... Are you seeing it with all downloads from all sites? If not, then if you could provide a site that does it others could poke at it, it might be useful. If it is universal, then I have no idea besides the standard troubleshooting of pitching prefs... Knowing whether you are running the 0.6 release or a nightly would be useful too since download handling has improved nicely in the recent nightlies.
