Many thanks for continuing to make these builds...we have a G4 mini, a pair of MDD 1ghz and a 12" albook, and don't really plan on "upgrading" unless we're finally forced to. The G4's do everything we need 'em to do, and frankly we just don't see the need for anything else. SO thanks for doing these!

just want to add another "thank you" to the chorus :-). these optimised builds are helping to keep my old machines (right up to a 500MHz (on a 66MHz system bus!) original "marble" iBook) useful even today! There's a very noticeable difference in performance between the optimised Camino for G3 and the standard Camino 1.5.5 ...

Which build?

Post by MikeMac1 »

I have a G4 quicksilver, how do I find out if either build is right for my processor? (Single 800)
Thanks for the help.

Camino 1.6

Post by RPMozley »

The Camino 1.6 optimised builds are done and are available now.

Also a note for Tiger users (10.4.x): I've changed the bookmark bar colours to a more unified look with the location toolbar. Just let me know if you want the default colours in a build and I'll get one done, if there is any interest in it.

Thanks for the builds. I thought something looked a little different...(followed the link from PMC, so I never saw this note).

Camino 1.6.1 optimised builds

Post by RPMozley »

The Camino 1.6.1 optimised builds for G3, G4 7400 and G4 7450 processors are available now. Sorry for the delay, I've been away for a week or so and this version ended up being released while I was gone.

Enjoy O:)

Thanks a lot for the builds. they are indispensable in our days.

I have tried to download the latest Camino1.6-G4-7450.dmg which points to http://www.savefile.com/files/1513399

The file I get, is Version 1.6 (1.8.1.14 2008041011) which is identical with the previous 1.6 version. Could there have been a error in the uploaded file?

I've not removed the older 1.6 builds in the Camino savefile project just yet (will do so sometime soon though). You want to get Camino1.6.1-G4-7450.dmg found here http://www.savefile.com/files/1572831

I'm very happy I just found these builds. I'm a longtime Camino user (since 0.7) and I most of the Macs in use by my friends, family and colleagues are G4s. Thanks RPM!

A couple of questions:

Are they US-English or Multilingual?

My Powerbook has a G4 upgrade card with a PPC7410. Presumably the PPC7400 build is best for this?

My Camino builds have US-English and my own make up of British English. There is a way to put your preferred language into my builds. It's quite simple, if you've done a bit of fiddling with applications before already.
Firstly you should download the official multilingual build, if you haven't done so already. Next you mount the disk image and right-click (ctrl-click for single button mice) and select "Show Package Contents". Then you navigate to Contents/Resources/ and find the language folder that you want to use, drag it to your desktop or where ever you want. Select my optimised Camino build and "Get Info" (command-I) go to Languages and click the "Add..." button. Go through and select the language folder you just copied from the Multilingual and then you're done with that stage.
The next stage is for the preference tabs. You can either copy the whole Contents/PreferencePanes/ folder into my build directly or you can, one by one, copy each preference pane language folder from its own Contents/Resources/.

I hope you can understand those directions ok, if not contact me directly by private message.

For your PPC7410 processor I would guess the G4 7400 build would be good. I'm not entirely sure which will be best but have a look at this page for a guide.
