So what you are saying is that if you click this link then the sub folder "Camino 1.0 - 1.6" does not show up? It always shows for me, even if I've logged out.

No, it was the first link I clicked on... too quickly as it turned out. THAT link went straight to the 201 d/l. THEN I found a more generic link that was the same as immediately above, that DID lead to the set of folder you mentioned. All is vrey cool... toodle pip (may date me, do they still use that expression in the UK?).

Hello,

I use G4 optimized build of Camino 2.0.2 (7450 G4). I've noticed that when this build crashes, only Apple's crash review tool is running and Camino's Breakpad client is missing. So far, I couldn't send you any crash report from my Camino G4 2.0.2. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
Ali

Breakpad crash reporting is for official builds only. My builds don't give anything useful for the Camino developers in the Breakpad reports.
If you are experiencing frequent crashes or know when or where it will crash, please use the official builds to log the crashes.

Thank you for this explanation. This is good to know. These crashes are not frequent or new, if I encounter a new one, I will try it on an official build in order to send review to the developers.

Thanks again,

1. Have any benchmarks been done comparing the canonical Camino releases vs the optimized G4 releases? Startup times, pageload times, Javascript times, etc? At the moment, I wonder about using the optimized 2.02, since it doesn't include the bugfixes from the official 2.03.
2. Will there always be a 1-version lag?

In answer to your questions:
Number 1. No, no benchmarks have been done for my builds that I am aware of. Anyone is welcome to do them if they wish to.

Number 2. Yes but usually only for a few days or so. Unfortunately this current release occurred when I was away, so things are a little delayed at the moment.
O:)

Camino 2.0.3

Post by RPMozley »

Optimised builds of Camino 2.0.3 are ready and available. I have them uploaded to the File Factory site but unfortunately I'm having problems with uploading to Media Fire (their upload server seems to be timing out!).

Anyway, enjoy. O:)

OK, finally I've been able to upload my builds to Media Fire. Sorry it took so long but things were out of my control (something wrong with MediaFire's upload server).
Anyway, enjoy my optimised Camino 2.0.3 builds, with a little less advertising.

I tried your G5 optimized build, and I am fairly certain it caused a problem with history.dat that made all but the last 5-20ish URLs in history disappear. Trashing history.dat didn't help, nor did replacing the G5 optimized build with a different 2.0.x build, but trashing history.dat and replacing the G5 optimized build with the 2.0.3 stable release seemed to fix the problem. 2.1.x also seemed to have no problem with the history.dat file generated/altered by the G5 optimized build.

Here is my thread about it (and several other unrelated things; sorry if you have to read through all of them, at least the thread isn't very long). It isn't detailed in a technical way, just me talking about the tests I did (mostly summarized above) to come to this conclusion.

History?

Post by RPMozley »

Sorry you've been having problems. Are you completely sure my G5 build is at fault? I've not had any other reports from people. I can't think why it would affect the history file, I'm only doing small optimisations.
Unfortunately I can't test G5 builds as I don't have G5 computer to test it on. If you'd like to try the optimised build again, to see if the problem comes back or not. Just to be sure.

I did a quick test:

1) Back up history.dat
2) Replace Camino 2.0.3 stable release with G5 optimized build
3) Launch Camino
4) Quit Camino
5) Re-launch Camino

History disappeared, except for the most recent 13 URLs. I went back to the stable release and history.dat backup, and everything was ok again.

Maybe there's something weird about my system that's causing some kind of conflict, or maybe the other people who use it never check their history and thus haven't noticed (I don't check history very often myself). But it seems clear to me that the problem I'm having, whether or not anyone else has it, is related to your G5 optimized build. :(

I hope others with a G5 can check and see if it's just me, or if it affects them as well. I wouldn't be too surprised if it were just me; I have a lot of junk on my machine.
