Can't speak for anyone else, but I'd be interested in G5-optimized builds.

Camino optimised for G5

Post by RPMozley »

Ok then, I'll try out building a G5 optimised version of Camino 2.0.1 and see how things go. I will post again when I have something for people to try out.

Well, here's one build for you to test out Camino2.0.1-G5-970.dmg
Please try it out to see if everything is running ok.

Thanks! I'm running it right now, and everything's fine so far. It's snappy, but 2.0's been pretty fast for me in general (fixes 1.6's javascript issues), so it's a little difficult to measure any performance difference. History seems to load a little faster, and it seems like most page loads are limited by server response rather than browser processing anyway; javascript seems even faster than in plain 2.0. Where are people seeing the most improvement in the G3 and G4 builds?

I guess the G5 build is ok. So accordingly I've updated my web site to include it.

Been running it for 36 hours under heavy use without a hiccup, so I'd say the evidence points to yes. :)

Thanks again for the build!

I keep on getting error messages that the server has no available download slots for me; I've been trying to download the 7400-optimized 2.0.1 build for months now. Is there any other place where I can get it?

Have you tried my alternate download site MediaFire?

Except I can find no link to MediaFire (except 201 listed in this thread)... the other site is not so useful as it kept me for a few minutes, many ads and pop up pages then it said "no slots." You only list the FileFactory site d/l...

At MediaFire the builds are located inside a sub folder called "Camino 1.0 - 1.6" within the main Camino folder :!:

Ah, tried the first link I found... further back there's a generic MediaFire link that DOES show the folders!

You might think to add that to the download listings on your web page... not to mention I see places like RapidShare that make it almost totally impossible to get anything without the end user paying a huge freight charge. They're very clever, they disguise it by using impossible to read security coeds PLUS if you manage to hit it on the 6th try, you'll get a "all slots busy, try again later."
