The plan is to get rid of it. Didn't make it for 4.0, though — more important
things to fix. It's on our list.

I sorta figured that was coming what with the Navigation bar being the only place that isn't FORCED to be small icons mode all of the time. There's a whole long chain reaction of bugs leading out of this one that are also rather strange... apparently the new toolbar button style will *only* apply to the Navigation bar, while other buttons I guess will receive the OS button style? weird stuff.

Bug 616472 - Unify most icon sizes across platforms to ease add-on authors lives (it doesn't really make things simpler for us, it introduces more difference between FF3 and 4).

These changes make Bug 626382 - Simplify toolbarbutton stylesheet requirements to make life easier for extensions very important for us, that use different icons sizes for "large" and "small"!!
Also important will be the documentation further, to incentive extension developers to provide large icons too.

weird indeed, I noticed the navigation style buttons no longer appeared on my #aios sidebar toolbar with newer builds, and instead got OS style buttons aswel. Can't say I was really fond of that change, something else to userstyle I guess

Well I don't mind choice, but say a user wanted large icons on the navigation bar, that doesn't mean they might also want large icon buttons on every other toolbar.. so for me the lack of easily changeable individual toolbar customization isn't so great, its just good that I prefer small icons/buttons for everything.

I also think the [Show (small/large) icons] in the 'Customize Toolbar' dialog window should be changed to [Show (small/large) buttons] as there doesn't actually appear to be any any large toolset icons sizes even happy medium 48x48 pixel ones with less button and more icon.
