On Windows 7, is there a way to change the background colour of the toolbars so it more closely resembles the look it had in the early 4.0 betas? It used to be much lighter.

What's the best guess as to whether we should take post-RC1 changes from m-c into a theme targeting Fx4.0? Does it look like RC1 will be the one?

I guess it will be OK to base our themes on... any changes they make will probably just refect changes we are already making... like I'm betting someone at Mozilla will realize that the addonbar resizer will need to use -moz-box-ordinal-group to hold it in place at the end of the toolbar and a few other tweaks.

Thanks Patrick. I also found this.

From Google groups:
- http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla. ... 5f1118e76e

Subject: Firefox 4 desktop work moves to releases/mozilla-2.0, mozilla-central to be used for Firefox 4 mobile

Summary:
- fx4 source code now branched from mozilla-central to new repo releases/mozilla-2.0
-- pushlog for fx4 release repo: http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-2.0/
-- branch date is 2011-03-03
- mozilla-central will continue to receive fennec-specific changes which will not be in fx4 desktop
-- codebase divergence, but between fx4 desktop and fx4 fennec only
- mozilla-central will probably still be the source from which Firefox desktop trunk will be built
-- (i.e., Fx5, or whatever the next version is called)
-- meaning the codebase for fennec and firefox desktop will have reconverged at that point
-- although it's not finalized and plans can change
- Fx4 RC1 was built releases/mozilla-2.0
- if there's are further RCs, they too will be built from releases/mozilla-2.0
- no more nightlies for Fx4
-- if you're getting nightly updates, they represent fennec and the future fx5, but not fx4

EDIT: I previously said:

- Fx4 RC1 was built from m-c, but if Fx4 has an RC2 it'll be built from releases/mozilla-2.0

but that's wrong because the mercurial release tag for RC1 (FIREFOX_4_0rc1_RELEASE) is present in releases/mozilla-2.0 but not in m-c. Fx4 RC1 was built from releases/mozilla-2.0.

It's very confusing ... I'm using Minefield 64bit. Now I understand that I should switch to RC? What about 64bit version? I couldn't find any?
Can someone please make it clear, as a theme developer, which version should I use?

The version you should be targeting for Fx4 is the Fx4 RC 1.

32-bit nightlies are now being built from code which is not in Fx4 RC1, so don't use those (although the differences are expected to be minor).

If there are any changes for an RC2, I'm sure Alfred will note them here like always, but there haven't been any yet.

I don't know anything about 64-bit builds, except I have the impression that there's no *official* 64-bit Windows build this time around, for Fx4.

(BTW - do you notice any difference when using the 64-bit build, speed-wise or anything?)

Thanks for your reply mcdavis.
I find it hard to believe that Mozilla isn't releasing a true 64bit version (I was using Minefield 64bit for awhile and it' works great).
Now, with 64bit Os becoming the standard, it's very weird not to release a 64version, even IE has one.
Anyway, I cannot compare the 32 bit and the 64bit because I upgraded from XP 32bit into Win7 64bit and a new computer so I can only say that it's very fast and never blinked as I was working with graphics, many windows open and many tabs together.
It's also stable as a Beta ever was.
Anyway, does anyone know the official plan for 64 bit versions?

I googled a bit and found this :

Mozilla will draw to a close with Firefox 5.0 that it has on track with Firefox 4.0 in terms of support, specifically creating a next generation release of its open source browser tailored to 64-bit Windows.

The open source browser vendor even supervised to put together and release a few premature Builds of 64-bit Firefox 4.0 to untimely adopters running Microsoft’s OS.

However in the conclusion, it emerges that x64 Firefox 4.0 wasn’t intended to be. At present, Microsoft is the only company offering a 64-bit version of its browser, and those running x64 Windows can locate it effortlessly by digging just a little smidgen beneath the entire programs.

It appears that x64 IE will presently have a 64-bit browser companion, with the arrival of the successor of Firefox 4.0. Mozilla lately unveiled that it’s scheduling to release not only Firefox 4.0, but also Firefox 5.0, Firefox 6.0 and Firefox 7.0 by the end of 2011.
An x64 alternative of Firefox 5.0 will be offered in addition to the existing 32-bit (x86) release which is accessible for mutually x86 and x32 Windows.

So far no theme code changes after the RC1 build.
As for the 64bit release, I believe the main issue is in plugin support, but let's keep this discussion out of this thread please.

Is there going to be any further development on the Windows XP theme in Firefox going forward? It would be nice to have it match the mockups.

Not for FF4.0, but all bets are off for the next version of Firefox.

I've been taking a look at FF5.0a2 and have noticed some minor theme changes so it might be useful to start documenting them. The first change I noticed is with the #alltabs-button being set to collapsed=true and a new #tabview-button being added to the toolbar. They appear to do basically the same thing, but this change does away with the tiny down arrow and uses the tabview icon instead.

Funny but my version have just updated to Nightly 6.0a1 !
I see no theme changes except the about page that looks very cool (I had to tweak a bit).
