you must not have seen my post right after the one you quoted. i did find an app to do this, take a look at my screenshot.

the program is PNG MNG Construction Set Professional it's not the best but it got the job done. i will take a look at GIMP and see if it will. thanks for the response.

yeah... that's a bit overkill. still overkill but by a little less so would have been imagemagick. it's all kinda moot now, though.
