Mozilla want to kill the themes?

Post by David.Vincent »

There is a new display for the themes on AMO site : now if you choose "Themes" you will have the Personas page.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/themes/

If you want the themes there is a small link at the end of the page.

I don't like this. There is no other way to kill our themes.

Can you find the enhancement bug that made this happen?

It's about time they combined Personas into themes. The announcement they were going to do that was March 2012. Can't find the bug for this change.

Don't know if I like the rearrangement in priority even though I prefer a light theme over a full theme.

Edit: In my Firefox 19.0b1, activating the "See all themes" link in Add-ons Manager takes me to the Full themes page.

Hi guys,

I'm a member of the Mozilla add-ons team. I just want to say now that we're as unhappy about the decreased visibility of full themes as you are and are working to do something about it. We just found out about this change today.

To expand a little on Kris's post, the changes were based on an old design and we weren't aware they were going to be pushed live this week. We're making some adjustments that should be applied to the site soon.

I was under the impression that it could not be push out without a buy off in an enhancement bug by the folks in charge. That is why I was looking for the bug that made this happen.

Thanks for the posts guys. I just hope this gets fixed soon. Blue Fox daily downloads dropped from 2091 to 1249 which is not a good thing.

Are you saying that the/a Full Themes link will get better visibility?
How about in the left hand column on the themes page perhaps under Recently Added and in the Themes drop down menu under Newest?

I would suspect that this will not be changed. jorgev is either being disingenuous or is totally out of the loop (given the history of AMO the bet is even money). The new site didn't just appear because someone was drunk, it was approved. Now that it is there any bugs filed about it will be a wasteland of posts that will not change anything.

This is a classic Mozilla old maid. It would be funny if it had not happen many times before.

Knowing Jorge's role at AMO, and interacting with him since around 2005, I don't agree.

I would suspect that this will not be changed.

That however, I may agree with you.
