Phew, thank goodness for pixhost's bulk uploader! I'm exhausted, I'll come back and write some stuff about these...another time.

Hi,
It took some doing to drag myself away from the Netscape Classic theme and I've been sticking with Modern for a long time, after looking at new themes from time to time. These both look nice and I'm seeing if either would wean me from Modern but I don't see a close tab button, at the right end of the tab bar, in either one :?:
Thanks,
Rolf

Now corrected on both themes.

If you want to see that close button straightaway, then just add this to your userChrome.css -

Code: Select all

.tabs-closebutton {
  list-style-image: url("chrome://communicator/skin/icons/close-button.gif") !important;}

As you can probably tell, all the screenshots were done with the Sea Fox extension installed that adds a close button to each tabs.

Thanks for bringing that one to my attention.

Before I forget....

I've added a few usual non-default features to these themes as well -

#1. Sidebars open up to 800 pixels wide and have no minimum width.

#2. Searchbar history dropmarker added to searchbar - the dropdown list gives you the list of your previously entered search terms.

#3. Re-'designed' the urlbar autocomplete dropdown layout.

I haven't touched the urlbar dropmarker side - that still shows previously entered urls as usual. What I changed was when you start typing in the urlbar and the dropdown list shows up. That list can be bookmarks only, history only or both and probably the entered urls as well. It is in fact the 'Awesome Bar' functionality that Firefox has.

It struck me, that if SM is going to have the 'code burden' of that functionality then it might well be more useful to users if it was laid out better. So..on a normal width urlbar...rather than seeing a long truncated url address followed by a very truncated description.

I've laid it out (still all on one line) like this -

Favicon > Description > Url.

As I have done fixed width on the Description there and as 80% of descriptions are fairly short, this means it's now much easier to navigate that dropdown and know exactly what you are selecting.

Beautiful themes Frank, I'm no longer a Trekkie! thanks :)
@FWIW I just went to AMO and don't see either under Newest Complete Themes or for that matter anywhere else, even with a search ...not approved yet? :-k

The review queue has been very slow lately. Maybe some folks are taking a much deserved vacation. ;) Once it passes review it will appear there... although until he gets some users it might be on the second page.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Thanks, and it was certainly good to be working on a light theme again. You have to be able to theme in any style for any particular section of a userbase, but light, elegant themes are where I feel most at home with.

As you can probably tell, both these were designed mainly for at people at work, who are an important part of a userbase whose needs are often overlooked.

When these have passed 'Full Review' on AMO, they will appear on the various lists/searches there.

I thought I would see a new version with this correction and waited for that, not keen on messing with userChrome.css as I've been in there trying to make my fonts to my liking. The other themes don't need that and I thought it might interfere with other themes. I installed the Metal Lion themes, again, thinking they might have been tweaked and left at the same version but did not see the close tab button. So, I pasted that edit in, restarted Seamonkey, and got the close-tab x in Metal Lion. However, when I switch back to Modern, it has no close tab button, not the behavior I'm after. ](*,) Can you explain, please? Thanks.

Hi,

New versions have new version numbers, so users know when things have changed.

Since they were released 3 days ago, I have fixed or adjusted other things, things that most people wouldn't notice, and the new versions will contain all the fixes. A new version for both themes will be available soon.

So, I pasted that edit in, restarted Seamonkey, and got the close-tab x in Metal Lion. However, when I switch back to Modern, it has no close tab button... Can you explain, please? Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't realise you were not familiar with how userChrome.css worked. It applies its code universally. That code snippet is what the default SM theme uses.

Added userChrome.css code that is not applicable to a theme or extension is simply commented out, like this -

Code: Select all

/*.tabs-closebutton {
  list-style-image: url("chrome://communicator/skin/icons/close-button.gif") !important;}*/

These are very nice. (I remember Metal Lion brushed? smooth? something like that -- back in the FF 2.0/3 days, I think.) I think they look especially good in the Mail portion; very polished and sleek. Thanks!

Thank you for saying so. :)

These ones were designed mainly for people at work, which is an area often overlooked by themes. If SM is going to be adopted seriously into the workplace in the future, then it has to look the part.

Later, I may do some in my more usual 'fancy' colourful style.

**********

As you can see by the lack of updates on these, there is nothing breaking at all.

However, I did notice one minor bug/oversight - the Printer icon reverts to default in the Customise Window. Hardly likely to keep anyone awake at night, but might as well fix it. Because I'm adding the fix to my Linux stuff atm and have it in the clipboard already, here it is for anyone who wants to add it to their userChrome.css before my next updates on these -

Code: Select all

/*Fix for printer in cust window...*/
toolbarpaletteitem[place="palette"] > #print-button {
  list-style-image: url("chrome://mlags/skin/menuPanelG.png") !important;
  -moz-image-region: rect(0px, 673px, 32px, 640px) !important;
   transform : scale(0.65, 0.65) !important;
}

toolbarpaletteitem[place="palette"] > #print-button {
  list-style-image: url("chrome://mlag/skin/menuPanelG.png") !important;
  -moz-image-region: rect(0px, 673px, 32px, 640px) !important;
   transform : scale(0.65, 0.65) !important;
}

(I've done it so it'll work for you on either theme - see the mlag/mlags stuff)

Frank :)
