I guess I'll be the "lone dissenter" and say that for myself I prefer a Firefox-styled "Flock" theme. But I'm not the majority in this case---and I hold to the point that it's important to give to the majority what they want. :)

Hmm... did that make any sense at all? LOL! Maybe I should drink some more café and wake up!

I do know that in the past when I was a themer for K-Meleon, when I ported themes from Mozilla or Firefox to that I myself had to realise the limitations of that browser, and so I gave those styled themes to K-Meleon---but they were wholly a K-Meleon theme, seem? On the otherhand there are miles of difference between K-Meleon and Mozilla/Firefox, whereas Flock and Firefox stem from each other. I wouldn't see this icon so much as a "non-working icon" as much as I would see it as part of an "artistic design of the theme". See what I mean ShareBird? Hmm... Like putting someone's avatar up on a toolbar? Think of it as placing the "Flock avatar up there" (and a sharp-looking avatar at that! ;) ). I think that's how many---though not all---will maybe see it where it's built into the edge of the URLbar like that, "endcap image".

Oh yes! Come to think of it---you could make a "subskin" directory in "global" and have a "rounded-urlbar.css" which people could go and trigger as an userChrome.css option if they'd prefer that instead perhaps?

Just a few thoughts. Thanks for letting me allow my €.02½ to roam free. ;)

Amicalement,

@Eyes-Only,
You're not alone Mon Aminche!!! I also prefer a Firefox styled Flock theme. I like the rounded urlbar and its dropmarker. But I have to agree it's so cute this Flock's urlbar!!! I'm really not sure what I have to use, I hope the people here will help me :-)

What I don't like is the fact this toolbarbutton will appears as "broken", the more Flock becomes more popular... Ideally I think on an extension that brings some functionality to this button. I'm thinking about to make it, maybe someone else could help me... Otherwise, if we think further in this direction the conclusion will be what I said before... Why the efforts with theme and extensions if the browser I want already exists?? OK... Things to be considered.

@all
I promised the change log and an update. Thinking about this urlbar question delayed it a little bit. But here we go...

Changes on Flock Alpha v0.1.0.1 -> v0.1.1.0
  • fixed several issues with toolbarbuttons
    • Back and Forward button had no "onclick" status
    • Reload and stop button had reactions on mouse despite their disabled status
  • implemented rounded urlbar and searchbar
  • fixed several issues with closebutton
    • on findbar
    • on tabs (TabMix Plus)
    • on tabbar
  • fixed issue double bookmarks icons on customizing personal bookmarks toolbar
  • removed outlines for browser tabs
  • added tab drag indicators (TabMix Plus)
    Image
  • fixed a couple css errors
  • added urlbar security colors
  • gray color for selected text on urlbar
  • changed code and images from tabs
    • the tabs look as usual, but the approach on skinning them is totally different. So is now fully compatible with TabMix Plus.

      Image
  • added the possibility to have the original appearance from Flock browser
    • You have to add a line in your userChrome.css:

      Code: Select all

      @import url("chrome://browser/skin/flock/urlbar/star-urlbar.css");

      This code must be placed before the line:
      @namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

      Image

You can grab the file here: Flock 0.2 Alpha - v0.1.1.0

I hope you like it and feel free to report any bugs on it.

Cheers

Hi Sharebird,

I think you have done an excellent job on your
lastet version of Flock Theme.
Now it looks exactly like Flock
with the url button and the rectangular
url bar.
Many thanks again for doing a great job.

cheers

Thank you guys for testing it and for the feedbacks! As I can see most of you prefer the "star-urlbar" :-). I will considere it.

As I said before, I'm asking for permissions to release the theme. I see the proppose from this thread as test and collect ideas how the port to Firefox could be. I've removed the file temporarily until I have the decisions from Flock devs. I hope I can release it soon...

Thanks

@darken,
Maybe you have something on your userChrome.css that causes this issue??

Flock 0.2 Alpha v0.1.1.0 looks beautiful!

It has become one of 4 themes that I switch between:

- Aquatint 1.5.1
- Flock 0.2 Alpha 0.5.6.6
- Silvermel-SE
- BlackJapan 0.9

Great work :)

In my opinion, Flock would have been so much better had it been released as a set of add-ons with a couple extensions and a theme to go with them.

btw, I LOVE the tab drag indicators :)

Hi Sharebird,

Yeah mate you have done a great job once again.
You say your waiting for an okay on Flock theme.
Will your next version contain more features
as the original Flock?.
Oh here is a pic of my firefox with your theme
and also the IE Tab extension themed with
Flock icon.

no offense, blinkybill, but if you love the flock theme so much, you could just use Flock.

what a novel idea!

Yeah desertfox,

Its not so much that i like the Flock Browser
as I like the look of it as I have always found
the default firefox theme kind of ugly.

so pretty much the idea behind the ported Flock theme is to make a Firefox theme that is based on the Flock theme.

not to make an exact clone.

cheers
