@Sipaq:

Have you contacted Stefen Garrity? I think he and his guys at silverorange would be happy to contribute - for he is the Mozilla Design guy. He can contact the designers of the TBird Logo, too so that they can make a sunbird logo!

In addition I can offer myself as Icon/Logo designer. I am pretty deep into Freehand/PhotoShop here at work. You and Steven can contact me via my Email@stored in this Profile.

Wanna See some Icons by me? Here you are: http://ant.apache.org/projects/antidote ... enshot.jpg

Cheers,
Chris

No, I haven't talked to him. As I said before, we talked to Kevin Gerich and Stephen Horlander, the guys wo did the Firefox and Thunderbird default theme. I don't think Steven can do anything about a new sunbird theme, when the guys doing the groundwork (Kevin and Stephen) can't do it because of Time constraints. But nevertheless I will contact him and see what he has to say about this.

Unfortunately the quality of the picture is lacking a bit, but from what I can see it looks good. An icon designer is what we lack the most IMO. So if you could help us with improving the current icon-set, we would really appreciate it. I will contact you via mail.

Probably best done by whoever as the original vector art for the Thunderbird logo.

Excellent logo! One thing though, it would be nice if it was a little different somehow than the thunderbird logo. The Firefox logo and the thunderbird logo are similar but different.. Other thanthe color and the different thing they wrap, maybe you could modify the bird a little bit?

Other than that, it's an excellent logo! I'm sre Jon Hicks will be willing to help you out if you need to consult with him about how to make it more like the other two!(http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk). :

Here's Sipaq's reply to that question earlier in this thread :-)

The contest is completely open.

We asked Kevin Gerich and Stephen Horlander if they could also work on a default theme for Sunbird and the reply was basically: "Sorry, not enough time!"

So that means, that we will accept anything which looks and feels nice. The new theme may look totally different than Winstripe/Pinstripe. But of course if someone wants to do a theme based on Winstripe/Pinstripe we're totally fine with it. Almost anything looks better than the current classic theme :)

I hope that clarifies it.

Personally, i feel it would be better if it was winstripe like, so all the mozilla.org standalone products share a similar look. It already looks like the logo creation is coming along nicely, and will probably look similar (maybe too much ;) ) to the fx and tb logos.

Hi cheeaun,
no it does not need to look like Winstripe. One could also base the theme on your phoenity icons or whatever else. As I said before, the basic rule for the theme is "Just be creative" and of course "Make it look nice :-)". See also my other post, which FlashBanG quoted. If you need more info, just ask here in the forum.

My themes all theme the Calendar extension. Are there additional icons in the Sunbird that aren't in the Calendar extension for Mozilla/Netscape/Firefox/Thunderbird?

Here are screenshots of all my themes' support of the Calendar extension:

In addition to the toolbar icons, you would have to theme the options window and the javascript debugger.

Since toolbar customization is planned, you should also be able to supply additional buttons, e.g. Cut, Copy, Paste, Print, ... (not necessary now, may be necessary when toolbar customization is hooked up).

I am considering taking up this torch. I would require a graphic artist on the team as my expertise is on the theming side. Any volunteers? I would also like to know if regular builds with DOM Inspector can/will be made available as I do not make my own builds.

Options window icons are themed in my Firefox/Thunderbird themes, and the Cut, Copy, Paste, Print, etc, are present in my themes as well. They can be seen in the screenshots pages for each of my themes.

jeffhot has indicated that he would like to help but lacks the theming skills. Looks like the perfect match. You could also try to get in contact with markcarson, who made the Sunbird app icon mockup in this thread.

At the moment this is not planned as far as I know, but I guess it should be possible to build sunbird with DOM Inspector enabled. I'm sure we can work something out.

Great. I've seen the screenshots. Are these themes and the icons available under the MPL/LGPL/GPL tri-license?

Ummmm... the fact that I don't know means maybe, but maybe not. I don't understand the legal mumbo-jumbo of the MPL/LGPL/GPL tri-license. I can give links to the icon author's sites for further verification of the icon license if desired.

Aaron, will the icon designer agree to the tri-license requirement, i.e., giving up all control to the icons?

Sunbird Logo/Icon

Post by markcarson »

Actually it needs a lot of things - feathers, more detail, better shading, etc. And then there is that extra vertical line in the calendar that makes 8 day weeks - oops. If the graphic artist of the Thunderbird logo does not take this for action and there is interest, I will further develop the logo if the project wants me to. Not sure who the decision makers are, but let me know. Mark@MarkCarson.com
