"It's about Time, it's about Space, it's about two guys in the craziest place" - the start of a theme song from a 60's sitcom. Anyone else old enough to remember this line?
It's Time!
or
It's About Time!
Either one works for me.
that that is is that that is not is not is that it it is
Just to get this off my chest, the now-clichéd line "Make your time" is rattling around in my head. But just ignore that.
And my more serious reason for posting, what about adding a tufted crown of feathers that resembles a sun's rays (like a lion's mane, for example, but not as thick), or would that muddy up the look of the icon at smaller resolutions? I'm trying to picture it, but i'm not seeing it in my head so I thought I'd toss the idea out to everyone else.
markcarson: I'm just a nobody, but I think the logo is fantastic, I like how crisp and sharp it is, and it really fits in with the Mozilla suite. Excellent work. There's been a lot of debate about the "2004" thing, why not just take out the year altogether and have something like "ember" or "ruary" poking out? And about the week's starting day, what would it look like if that row were gone and there were no mention of weekdays in the logo at all? I wonder if people would bother getting that nitpicky about an icon that just showed a month name and 5 rows of a calendar? I doubt people would notice, especially if the largest icon was only shown in the About dialog.
As far as the theme goes, I would have to agree with a previous poster about their dated look. They are pretty reminiscent of a Windows 95-esque era. I think the reason for that is because of the 2D nature of them, and the lack of really vibrant color. I think they could use just a little bit more character. I know I don't have room to speak because I haven't contributed anything and honestly don't have the ability to make graphics on par with yours, but take my comments for what they're worth; just an outsider's constructive criticism. Keep up the awesome work.
(On a side note, I'm moving back to Waialua in a few weeks, maybe we can get together some time and hit the water... brah :)
Regarding the logo, I'm still waiting to hear if its possible to have localized versions in the About page. If so, I can create a suite of Logos to accomodate. Otherwise, well, where are the other logo submissions? I can't be the only one out there with an idea for a logo, can I?

These look a lot more visually stimulating than the last set. I think the hover icons are a bit bright though you can only tell when in actual use. I put them in a jar real quick so I could check them out.
I've placed screenshots of Sunbird with various versions of Mark's icons at http://www.intraplanar.net/projects/sunbird/ if anyone wants to take a look. They only have the toolbar icons changed for now. Please ignore the throbber as it is only a placeholder.
Don't take this the wrong way, I like to see lots of alternate ideas and I like a lot about the icon set, but I would probably download and use the below set of icons for about a day or two before I would select another theme which I could live with day to day for the long haul. My personal opinion is that the icons should not overpower the content which is what I'm using an application for in the first place. The larger and more cartoonish icons are a personal preference issue, and if you like 'em, use 'em. A default set on the other hand should show more consistency ('new' to 'edit' to 'delete' for instance) than I see in Aaron's icon set. And while I'm willing to resist the localization concerns that others have raised, I'm still sensitive to them and Aaron's icon set has more English issue than some other icon sets. Lastly, are we trying to limit ourselves to a default icon set not to exceed 24 pixels tall or not? This decision drives or contrains a lot of creativity.

So, I'm saying, keep sending in good ideas, somewhere out of the mix I'm sure an appropriate default set will emerge and hopefully a lot of really cool alternate themes as well.

Normally the task of localizing a Mozilla app just includes changing the localizable texts and creating a new build/language pack with these changes locales.
Implementing a new localized icon/image would seriously impact the task of localizing Sunbird and could result in less adoption of Sunbird in the localizing community. IMO we should make it as easy as possible for people to localize Sunbird, which is why I'm not in favor of your proposed solution.
Well, if localization is too hard to do on the About page, then we are left with the existing logo (under the heading of "take it or leave it") or a hacked up version (if you ask me) which is less specific to any particular conventions and point in time.
