In case anyone is as dissatisfied as I am about the recent change to the New Tab button in the Fx 3.1 nightly builds, I packed together a little extension that will restore the behavior to that of Fx 3.0. IMO, having this button on the main toolbar is all about convenience.

I'll hold my tongue on opinions of this idiotic move. (oops)

Good one, Cat. :)

I was thinking, you know, that if this 'trend' continues that it might be an idea for us to consider multi package installs to get our stuff as it should be.

I've done one of these in the past and they are very easy to do. The user does one click to install and gets the theme and what we regard as essential simple extensions to go with it. Users that don't need or require these, then simply disable or uninstall them.

Doing it like this, we could make totally different versions of Firefox to the default one. :)

That's certainly something to consider, Frank. How did you handle your "one click to install"? Using JavaScript code?

No. The only problem with this 'multi package install' stuff is actually how it's documented by Mozilla, haha. Underneath all the smoke and mirrors stuff, all they are is a shell of an extension* in which the special install.rdf points to the jars or xpis within. The user clicks once and all the stuff just installs, one after another.

All the 'fancy stuff' are just techniques that we already know how to do. I'll send you a link sometime, to one of mine.

* an .xpi, which is why Addons cannot handle/understand them if they are actually a theme plus bits. No problem if you host stuff yourself, of course. :)

Do you mean me ? :)

Perhaps you can put your heads together with Canyonero, who has made Chrome Package, which is a Theme, plus 'bits' to make the Tabs like Chrome....

Well, I'll put my head together with Canyonero, who is a good guy and good coder, any time on any project, but no need to for this.

Because, Steve *cough* ...I did the same type of install package as he, almost a year ago with Metal Lion HiViz 300 for Ken Saunders site. :P

hmm...must make time to release the HiViz sidebar as a standalone very soon. :-k

...mind you, must make time for a lot of things.............

@ Cat, just use that link as a template and you're good to go. :)
