First of all, due to those issues, I wouldn't consider this extension production-ready yet.
Nevertheless, in order to use it, you first have to create the folder structure (as that's not created automatically yet - but you seem to have grased that already).
So you'll probably end up with a structure like this: Does that match your folder structure?
If so, I'm not really sure why it wouldn't work...
By the way: The confirmation message doesn't really check (yet?) whether the file has actually been archived successfully.

Hey Ace,
I have the folders duplicated as you have shown but it definately does not move/copy anything across.
Thanks for your help. But, I think I'll let it go. If it gets picked up in the future I'll be sure to check it as the concept is exactly what I'm after. I still cannot believe this is yet to be done either with TB itself or an all encompassing extension.
Cheers mate,
Andrew.

This might be obvious, but have you actually selected a mail? The only mis-behavior I ever got was moving mails to non-existing folders (which is a big issue, of course)...
Anyways, I guess you're right in letting it go for now.
Thanks for bumping this thread though, maybe someone will pick up development from here...

I use ArchiveTools 0.0.3 from Frank DiLecce (Ausdilecce) successfully. However his web site seems to be down and can't see it in Mozilla Add-ins.
You need to bump the TB version number of use NightlyTools or MR Tech Local Install to make it compatible.
It copies emails above a certain age to an Archive folder and maintains the folder structure.

I am also interested in such an extension. Currently, I tag my mail "ToFile" and once a week manually move messages tagged as such to the appropriate folder under Archive. Having an extension do this would be great.
Thanks!

I've been using this extension for a few years now*, and it actually works well enough for my purposes.
Interestingly, I've noticed that more recent versions of Thunderbird report an error when the target folder does not exist, so e-mails don't just vanish into nirvana anymore.
* I just had to increase maxVersion in install.rdf

Thanks, Ace. I have tried to use the XPI found here: http://tidycms.com/ocean/extensions/Both of the 0.0.4 versions fail to install for me, even bumped. Do you have a valid XPI? Thanks!

Thanks, Ace. That post is from 2004, is the extension linked there still safe to use?

It's from 2006, but I take your point. As I've said, I'm still using it today - on Ubuntu no less (i.e. works fine on both Windows on Linux). Here's the latest version, which has been in use for years: OneClickArchiver 0.8.6(I suggest you create a temporary profile to make sure it all works as expected.)

I am also using a *buntu, Kubuntu 9.04 in my case.
In Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 the extension installs fine, but there is no "archive" option on the context menu nor is there any other sign that something has changed. I cannot open the extension's options dialogue, either (nothing happens when clicking this button from within the Addons Manager).
Or course, I did restart Thunderbird and even restarted X.

Sorry, I was never notified of your response.
You have to manually add the icon to the toolbar (via the usual right-click > customize > drag & drop).
