I've just tried installing what's now Flashblock 0.8.3 from www.extensionsmirror.nl with FF 0.9.3, but it fails with 'error code 999' when it tries to download in the Extensions window. Does anyone know what that means and what's gone wrong?

it probably means that the extension is too old.

if you check this topic you'll see that the previous post above yours is from last year.

I'm just recycling the thread; of course I know it's old, I found it via Search. The extension itself was last updated on 13 July 2004.

Just noticed that Flashblock is actually working, it's just not listed in the Extensions window

It's not updated for 0.9, so it'll install, it just doesn't play friendly as an extension, meaning you can't uninstall/disable it.
