mrtech wrote:inrig: not sure about the clicking/middle-clicking, but they should all work, let me know if you are still seeing this problem thanks.

I'm still seeing it, but it doesn't happen all the time. What I find is that sometimes left-clicking on about:config (etc.) does nothing, and sometimes it works. If it gets into a state where the left mouse button doesn't work, it seems to stay in that state until I middle-click the menu item, and thereafter it works (at least for a while) with either button.

I haven't yet found an operation sequence which is guaranteed to produce the problem.

Thanks for looking into this.

What gives?? After installing the Edit Config extension, I discovered that when I attempt to use that feature (to edit the Firefox config file, of course), what I got was Mr. Tech's About:config instead (!).

So, I decided to uninstall Mr. Tech's About:About extension, exited Firefox, and restarted Firefox. About:About is no longer shown on the Tools|Extensions list. But its Help|About? submenu is still present, along with all of the features, and it seems that all of them are still functional (!).

Is there any way to UNINSTALL an extension and really make sure that it is NO LONGER present in the software in any way?? Should I/you report this as a "bug"?? When I look on the About:Config display, for example, I see entries stored for every extension that I have ever installed, including, of course, entries for each and every one of the extensions that I have also "uninstalled"!!

Please advise!

P.S. I am running FF 1.0.6 on Windows XP (fully updated)

do you have my MR Tech Local Install extension installed too my about: features are in the Local Install extension and you can hide that menu from the options window.

I just got back from a mini-vacation and will be posting a minor fix to about:about that might help with the 2x's clicking issues, but should be ready soon. I'm still trying to work on finding out how to get about:about to work on Mac builds but haven't had much luck or help with this. If anyone can shed some light on Mac build I would really appreciate it thanks.

I have both extensions installed and I'm curious to know how you could tell the difference between edit config's about:config and mrtechs about:config? about:config is about:config no matter what brings up the about config window, isn't it?

about:config is a built in feature, both extensions just call the built functionality of Firefox, etc.

That's my point, if he selects about config from edit config files extension, how can he say it was called up by your extension? Maybe I'm mis-understanding what he's saying, lol

The Edit Config extension allows the user to specify the _editor_ that s/he wants to use to edit FF "configuration" files. When I select about:config from the Edit Config context menu, however, Wordpad is not launched and the about:config file is displayed just as it is with the Mr. Tech About:About extension (the editing features are rather limited!).

So, investigating a possible conflict between the extensions, I uninstalled Mr. Tech About:About, and have since uninstalled Mr. Tech Local Install (as he suggested) -- now none of the About:About and/or Local Install features are evident. However, as Mr. Tech mentioned above, Edit Config does not enable us to edit the file shown by about:config with our own choice of editor (though I had the impression that it did), it just uses the native FF feature.

Back to my primary concern: why does the about:config file still contain settings for extensions that have been UNINSTALLED?? That is why I wanted to edit that file to begin with. For example, it still contains user settings for Mr. Tech Local Install, even though I uninstalled it. Should I report this as a bug??

I only see two listings and they may not be part of MRT, they are about_about.aboutWindowTarget, and about_about.properties. FF does a decent job of un-installing now. I usually note the number ID'ing the extension before un-installing and after un-installing check to see if anything is left behind. Are you sure that edit config extension allows for editing about:config/prefs file? I see no option for this other than select open profile folder in the menu and edit your prefs.js from there but I'm not so sure that would work, I know it won't with Chromedit, which brings me back to my original comment, about:config is about:config be opened through bookmark, extension or urlbar.

I don't know anything about ID numbers for extensions or where to find them.

The reason that I installed Edit Config is that I thought that it would allow me to edit the file displayed by about:config. However, it does not. I've edited my most recent prior post to clarify what I've been doing, and why, and what I've discovered.

Preferences are tricky, there are ones that are set in user.js and in prefs.js which are your preferences and then ones that have a default value. about:config shows you all available preferences. To find the default values of ALL the preferences check your installation directory of Firefox (usually C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\greprefs and C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref) and open up the all.js, security-prefs.js, xpinstall.js, firefox.js, firefox-l10n.js and/or inspector.js. All of these values are put into one interface the "about:config" Both extensions just open the same built-in functionality.

Setting for my extensions should not presist, just email me mrtech@gmail.com a copy of the preferences that are still there and I'll check it out, thanks. To remove any setting just right click on the setting in about:config and choose "Reset" and next time you restart the setting will be removed.

If I had known that, then I would never have posted any messages on these matters <sigh>. Why couldn't it be labeled "Remove" instead? <rhetorical question> I'll email a copy of the lines from about:config that are present after Local Install is uninstalled, assuming that I can make one with the Windows clipboard feature.

Hello!

I see that install.rdf in 1.2.2 contains all the locales listed, but chrome.manifest contains only three of them. is this intentional or just a mistake?

Best regards!
