Update: tried zipping it back up with no compression. Still get corrupt message. Seem to have tried everything. What else could there be?

Have you tried without doing any edits? You may be doing something simple like zipping up the folder instead of the folder contents. Or the tool you're using is doing something odd to the file format. If simply unzipping and re-zipping works fine then you know that there is something up with your edit.

Sounds like a good idea for a test. Yeah, could be TextWranger is doing something weird, but it's a text/file editor of choice for Mac. Could try doing the edit with TextEdit, the native Apple text editor, but stayed away from that because it's been unreliable for this kind of stuff in the past. But will give that test you suggest a try.

Did that with no ID editing, never touched Text Wrangler, and still got the "corrupt" popup. Tried using different apps for compression/decompression (Keka-for zip with no compression, The Unarchiver, Stuffit, and the native Mac Archive Utility. As usual, no idea what to do next.
