I have not tested the Blue Frog Firefox extension so I can't argue against you.
One other thing Mike, gonna link to my profile too??
Been here since 2004, big deal. Posted a few times, big deal.
What other diatribe would you like to commit to next?
Wnat my IP so you & your spammer buddies can hack me with your superior haxor skillz?? LMFAO@You & your cronies.
You & your brokeback buddies better use chain proxies & a VPN tunnel to mask your IP, otherwise you'll find out why they call me Wyld, I'll just ROOT all of you, snag your persoanl info & your porn & make it all public...
So bring it on losers.... my 'sniffer' awaits your dumb@sses

No, you did not "think" that, because absolutely nothing in this thread indicates that I was ever seeking out the opinions of BlueFrog users. No, that's merely a bullshit, throw-away one-liner which you just made up.
I gave my honest opinion.
That's not true either -- you're just here to SPAM YOUR PRODUCT; and the proof is in the fact that your only recorded posts off a brand spankin' new account are on the subject of BlueFrog and submitted within the last 24hours.
I say you're just a *shill* sent over to do a job. <i>(Scene: The boilerplate-manufacturing room at BlueFrog, where Team Leader is barking out orders: "We got a 'Code-1' emergency, people! Someone is uncomfortably close to the truth-that-must-not-be-revealed over in the Mozilla forums, and I need all of you to drop whatever you're doing and head over there to make new accounts, then use them to stuff his thread full of glorious testimonials inbetween calling him a liar!")</i>)
What particulars do you want? If BlueFrog didn't work I would not use it Spammers expect only a very small percentage of replys to their spew. The websites they set up to take orders don't have the bandwidth to process even a small percentage of opt out requests. I personally use the linux version which hasn't changed my Yahoo sig, but I suppose it would be a good idea to manually change it to reflect my opinion of the frog. Sorry if you think my posts are 'airy fluff', I don't even know what you mean by that. Is that a technical term? I guess I don't know that much about these new-fangled computers after all.

I reaaly thought you wanted opinions and discourse. I followed a link from the Blue Security forums to get here. That doesn't make me a flunky and it doesn't mean I work for Blue Security. In order to post here I had to register so I did.

For your information, BlueFrog does not "hijack" Yahoo and Gmail signatures.
In the "Settings" window of the BlueFrog extension, there is a easy-to-find option marked "Promote BlueFrog in my signature." Now, when that option is checked, BlueFrog will place the words "Fight back spam! Download the Blue Frog." and underneath it is the URL to download BlueFrog.
When one turns that setting off, the signature does not appear in your messages. You also have the option of turning off signatures completely, through Gmail settings, or changing your signature to something you wish it to be. I get the sense that you use the terminology, but do not know what it means.
mike18xx... again wrote:And why does holy_Saiyan's post resemble a fill-in-the-blanks Turing-machine-generated SPAM response?
Turing machines do not "generate" responses. Turing machines are actually hypothetical devices, because it requires an infinite length of memory tape. So not only has no one ever built a real Turing machine, if they did, they would not use it to respond to snarky yet misinformed persons such as yourself... if not for the sole reason that a Turing machine's function is mathematical in nature.
So comparing me to a Turing machine is actually a non sequitar. To turn the point around, how do we know YOU'RE not a "Turing machine", as you misapply the label?

Which it was by default. Unless they've recently (i.e., within the last few weeks) changed it in response to complaints.
Yay! We can *opt out* of LameFrog's spamming itself via hijacking our sig files if only we notice it, and then have the patience to figure out what to do about it -- rather then jettisoning the whole unethical travesty as a lesson-learned. (The practice is similar to that employed by many of super hypocritcal scumbag Ralph Nader's "-PIRG" campus groups, which worm their way into looting students' pockets via funding "opt out" check-boxes buried deep within admission signing forms; don't check the box = PIRG lifts your wallet.)
But hey: Keep 'em coming, boys -- your every post bumps the thread back to the top of the stack!
I am making this post to discredit the BF nay-sayers(the spammers & their supporters) & to help others understand the difference between FACT & BULLSHYT.
I am instilling this format for this post:
The spammer's rumors/claims/post will be referred to as BULLSHYT
The answers/findings will be referred to as FACTS
BlueFrog will be referred to as BF
Prologue:
Ever since the BlueFrog has started its impact on the spammer's way of life (flooding people's email account with countless spam), they have started a campaign to stir fear in the general public by making unfounded statements & ludicrous lies to try to make the public shy away from participating in the BlueFrog project. They have even resorted to use bullying tactics to scare them even more by sending out 'threatening emails'. This just only illustrates the fact that the Frog does indeed work. If it didn't, would they even bother BlueFrog users??
In this case study, I used a total of 6 workstations [4 @work, 2 @home]. Specs aren't needed for the boxes so I will not include the info.
I also used 9 email accounts [3 throw-aways, 3 Public, & 3 Private] for this case study so that I could have a broader field to test.
Software utilized in this case study is as follows:
SNORT (sniffer)
TDS-3 (using a special script to detect UNKNOWN packets to & from the network)
PE (Port Explorer)
7th Sphere (port scanner)
ShadowScan (sniffer/scanner)
The following 3 are my applications I coded myself:
LANWatch (my application)
SideWinder (my application)
WyldAct (my application)
[Do not ask me for copies of my applications. They are NOT for sale!]
Disclaimer:
I am in no way affiliated with Blue Security or its Parent/Child companies nor do I live in Israel so don't even try to use thatsmear tactic.
FACT: BF does not contain any advertising hooks nor serving .dlls to do anything remotely related to spyware/adware/malware. The only hooks is the Reports that BF gives when it notifies the user that it has sent opt-out requests on behalf of said user.
==========================================================================================
BULLSHYT #2: BF slows down/crashes your computer(uses alot of resources) - UNTRUE
FACT: BF has such a small & light footprint, it uses minimal resources to perfrom it's job. On all 6 workstations, BF has not affected the performances of the boxes at all. As Mike18xx has posted, 'install Norton to....'. Norton is well known to be the biggest resource hog that an end-user will/can install on their computers. So go ahead and install Norton on your box as recommended by Mikey.
===========================================================================================
BULLSHYT #3: BF sends out spam from your computer - UNTRUE
FACT: Since I work for my ISP, I had the luxury of using a monitored SMTP server. This claims was smashed with an hour as the only activity logged were those that was approved of by the end-user. No extra emails were sent out at all.
===========================================================================================
BULLSHYT #4: BF uses your computer to commit DoS/DDoS attacks - UNTRUE
FACT: This was a joke claim by some of the spammers out there in NetLand. BF does not participate in any DoS/DDoS activities what-so-ever as noted in every packet log made during this case study. The only packets to & from BF is when the tool is uses to REPORT spam emails from registered account(out-going packets) & when BF notifies you of your Opt-Out request via Messenger window(in-coming packets). No idea how they could say that. Also, there is no such thing as 'hidden packets' so don't try that excuse. There are 'hidden servers'[trojans] but even thier packets can be seen & logged.
===========================================================================================
BULLSHYT #5: BF will increase your spam levels - UNTRUE
FACT: Out of 9 email accounts, only 3 saw a slight increase in spam received. This can be answered quite simply. The 3 accounts affected [2 throw-aways & 1 Public] were already on lists spammers have in their disposal. And the spam were mainly the 'threatening emails' that the spammers were sending out. The other 6 accounts [1 throw-away, 2 Public, & 3 Private] did not even receive any spam nor saw an increase [the 1 throw-away] so that shatters the claims that the Blue Security's Do Not Spam registry has been cracked/broken/compromised. If so, then why doesn't the other REGISTERED email accounts get the 'threatening emails'? Because as was reported earlier, those accounts getting those 'emails' are ALREADY on the list SPAMMERS are using. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.
===========================================================================================
BULLSHYT #6: BF leaves traces/remnants of itself on computers it was once installed on. -TRUE
FACT: Nearly ANY software you install will leave orphaned files on your computer. This is a side affect of a badly written code by the programmer [even Mickeysoft is guilty of this, Norton is also included but 1st place goes to AOL, where a disc format is the only true way to get rid of thier files].
===========================================================================================
FACT: While it is checked by default upon installing, there is an Option that the end-user can UNCHECK to NOT promote the Frog in their emails. Even though BF actives this option upon installing, it does not constitute as 'hijacking' anything as there are tons & tons of software that installs 'defaults'.
Smoke and mirrors. A virtuoso one man show dedicated to the one he hates. Why? How he hates the Blue Frog. Me, I love it 'cos I haven't had any spam for 5 days. Why does he hate it so much. And I mean so much!
