Does the HTTPS Only button in URL bar's lock icon work for you? It was introduced in Bug 1653026 - Give HTTPS Only Mode users a way to unbreak a page but it never works for me.

STR:
1. Enable HTTPS Only Mode.
2. Visit http://www.example.com
3. Change HOM to off from URL bar for http://www.example.com
4. Visit http://www.example.com again

AR: it still goes to HTTPS. Browser Console says HOM is still in effect.
ER: no HTTPS

Tested in a new profile.
Thanks.

Visited http://www.example.com/ with HTTPS Only Mode enabled.

The site was automatically loaded as https://www.example.com/ for me.

If I go a site that doesn't have a HTTPS version like https://www.wrx.zen.co.uk/britnews.htm, then I can either click the "Continue to HTTP Site" or the lock icon and turn HOM mode off or off temporarily.

I think the way it's implemented right now is that the dropdown isn't meant to be a choice between secure and insecure if a site offers both. Like the bug description says, it's only a way to unbreak pages by giving you a possibility to allow insecure access where there's no secure access available.

In other words, if you're in HTTPSOnly mode the browser will always check for HTTPS and use it if it's offered, regardless of that dropdown. However, I fully understand your expectation that it's supposed to give you a real choice. The wording in the UI isn't clear in that aspect.

thats what i thought. as Google an i dont think Chromium Browsers let you use Both. comes back to what i said sometime ago, i believe Mozilla will turn HTTPS on by default at some stage which will break this forum as it can only use HTTP an i dont think the owner of the forum will make it HTTPS enabled without a forum software upgrade an possibly other software updates also.

Thanks for all the replies. I understand that feature better now.

Using the example from the bug review, this is what the button intends to do:

(http://www.mixedcontentexamples.com/Test/NonSecureImage is loaded in all cases)
1. HOM on: the page is https; the image is https.
2. HOM on, site is exempted: page is https; image is http.
3. HOM off: both page and image are http.

I just had a crash in Nightly. I opened several pages at once (right+click on a Bookmarks folder, Open All in Tabs) and https://dvd.netflix.com/MemberHome failed to finish loading. I then closed the tab, opened a new tab, tried loading https://dvd.netflix.com/MemberHome and the entire browser stopped responding, including the UI. I finally closed Firefox by clicking the X on the upper right corner.

When I restarted Firefox Nightly, each tab opened up as I visited it, but https://dvd.netflix.com/MemberHome wasn't among them, but I was able to open a new tab and start https://dvd.netflix.com/MemberHome just fine.

I now have a crash report that, when I click on Submit, it immediately responds with "Failed". (No additional message supplied, just the change of the button from "Submit" to "Failed".)

This is Firefox Nightly, build-id 20201024094139, Help -> About shows version 84.0a1 (2020-10-24) (64-bit). This is under Windows 10 Home (64-bit) version 20H2. As of yesterday all maintenance from HP and Intel are up to date, and Windows reports I am up to date (except for optional maintenance).

Twitter has been acting strangely for several days with nightly. The symptoms I see is try to connect to a twitter feed and you get a Twitter something is wrong page if you go back and then try again it works.

i tend to think it is a Twitter issue rather than a firefox one, ever since they twitter upgraded twitter when it went down it was then acting odd for me
