What is this new sqlite db in 4.0 - "addons.sqlite"?

Anyone know what is the purpose of this new db?
Maybe it was there sooner already but i just noticed it in b6-pre.

Googling didn't turn up anything useful either and there is no KB article about this yet.Nether did i find anything about this on BugZilla or MozillaWiki.
