Another GREAT reason to use Mozilla/FB/Phoenix!

I DO NOT like "Flash", as most of them are just ads/commercials. I removed Macromedia's "Flash" from my IE and never installed this plug-ins for both my Mozilla and FB/Phoenix.

It's very interesting that IE (even without the "Flash" will download the "Flash" part first before displaying the rest, whereas Mozilla/FB/Phoenix seem to know that I don't have the plug-ins and would straight away display the web content! Mozilla/Phoenix/FB are just super fast, period! (considering my pc is an old PII 233, 96MB Ram with Win98SE!) Keep up the good work!

I hate the flash ads too, but I still have the plugin installed in case I want to see flash sites. I use the Proxomitron to filter out all the ads, popups, banners and flash stuff. You can get a free copy at http://www.proxomitron.org .

sammo, you sound like a commercial ... but i'll have to check it out. sounds useful. so many websites these days (especially for music groups) are flash.

Flash has come a long way past simple ads and evil intro sites. Perhaps it is time to look and see what is being done out there with it overall, especially as it pertains to Flash 6.

Many data driven applications are being written using Flash MX that I think are more than just bandwidth eating flashy crap.

Blocking meaningless content is one thing, but can be a bit of the "cutting off your nose to spite your face" kind of thing there.

That's why I like to Proxomitron. You can still see any flash that you want while blocking out what you don't. Sites can be bypassed by Proxo to see flash or individual flash items can selected by the link Proxo puts on the filtered page.

Thanks for the "http://www.proxomitron.org", will try that out. For now I simply try to add index.htm or home.htm in order to by pass the "Flash" part and if that don't work I simply DO NOT visit these "forced Flash" sites (I can get the same info from millions of other web sites, so there is no need to put up with "Flash"). To be fair I must also say that there are many good web developers who will either let you choose to view their web pages with or without "Flash" or they have the "auto detect" feature which would direct you to bypass the "Flash" part.

Homestar Runner doesn't count, it's a cartoon, not a "data-driven application".

I haven't used proxomitron, but it seems like I can replicate the most important features by using userContent.css . I'm currently using it to block most ads (and it's doing a damn good job too, as I've only seen about two or three ads after using it for a few days), but it's simple to block all flash with it as well. I choose not to, since I frequent a few sites like homestarrunner.com.
