Compiling Xft build on Mandrake?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but...

I was considering trying to make a Xft build of Phoenix on my machine, which is running Mandrake 9.0...is this even possible? I have the latest source downloaded & updated, but when I try to compile, I get:

<i>checking for xft... Package xft was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xft.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'xft' found</i>

I am taking this to mean that xft is not installed....what exactly should I install to make it work? Or, where can I get a copy of xft.pc?

You need to get fontconfig and xft2.
