My case is that Nightly offers me "Restart to update" every time, but it never gets updated after restarting. All the supposed update files stays at Nightly\updated. Nightly does get updated after 5 or 6 tries. (Windows explorer is a non-issue after more testings.) I uninstalled the Mozilla maintenance service if it matters.
I've had absolutely no problems updating in the last few days (WinXP x86, no update service). Now I did migrate to a new profile a couple of days ago, which took care of the download manager breaking when rapidly opening/closing. Unfortunately now I'm stuck with pdf.js since there's no longer a way to disable it (had it disabled in the previous profile when it was still listed as an add-on).
I think the download manager is good; I don't see what the fuss is about. Sure, a contextmenu option to go to the "target folder of the downloaded item" would be a welcome addition, but overall it does what it needs to do and it saves space in the taskbar since no additional window is created.
Same here, no problems updating whatsoever. But I didn't disable the update service.
But I did replace the Nightly directory a few times with an hourly in between the automatic update troubles. Maybe something is up with the Nightly directory. Try deleting it and replacing it with a fresh install.
I'm also having some weird update issues, which seemed to start yesterday.
Background:
1. I use zip builds 2. The location of the application files and profile are not default 3. The updater is set to manual
Scenario:
1. Either click the update notification box or start an update manually 2. Update appears to complete 3. fx restarts but, the executable is now running from a non-existent folder within the original fx folder:
Original folder - D:\Apps\Mozilla\Nightly\firefox.exe New folder - D:\Apps\Mozilla\Nightly\updater\firefox.exe
The change creates an alert in my firewall and requires a complete set of new rules for firefox, but the icon for the application is a temporary icon. Restarting firefox makes no change. If I download the latest build and replace the application, all is well. if I reapply an earlier version and run an update, the scenario is repeated. For now, I'll download the build daily.
