Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
The intent, IIUC, is to enable Shumway by default but only use it on a subset of Flash-based ads (advertisements) that are known to work. That way websites that only use Flash to display ads wouldn't have to spin up the plugin anymore (which is currently a major source of jank, though work is underway to improve this), not to mention other benefits. The more ads Shumway is able to display correctly, the bigger the impact Aside from everything else, I imagine that this is also a good way to test the waters with Shumway before applying it to content that people care more about (like Flash-based games, and eventually the video players on popular websites).Zlip792 wrote:"(so we can widen Shumway's ad whitelist)."

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
Doesn't that completely defeat the best aspect of click-to-play though? that it hides loud, annoying autoplaying ads for people not using an adblocker? I certainly hope Shumway will at least have the option for users to choose to disable autoplay, otherwise it seems like a wasted effort.
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
Can't you already get HTML5-based ads that start playing automatically? I guess there's no fundamental reason why Shumway couldn't be click-to-play as well, though.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
Supposedly the preference media.autoplay.enabled can be used to disable autoplay of HTML5 media... but I have no idea if it works. The best thing would be if Shumway honored that setting.

There's a bug to fix the fact that Shumway bypasses Click To Play. So i presume while Shumway will be used render some flash ads, the user still has control over Shumway in the same way we have control over any NPAPI based plugin.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
Latest Shumway seems to be really good, I have it enabled by default.

No. At least, I've just tried on youtube and the HTML5 video starts as usual.
Which is very annoying, of course.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
YouTube is a known guilty abuser of forcing autoplay... they now have it as an option on most pages, although if you dump cookies like me, it's useless. media.autoplay.enabled:false works on every HTML5 "sample" page I tried.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
It doesn't work for me on Youtube as a whole though (e.g. non-Shumway). If I load a video up it starts to play automatically even if I have media.autoplay.enabled set to false. Are pages where a video is the main focus somehow exempt, or am I misunderstanding the feature?patrickjdempsey wrote:YouTube is a known guilty abuser of forcing autoplay... they now have it as an option on most pages, although if you dump cookies like me, it's useless. media.autoplay.enabled:false works on every HTML5 "sample" page I tried.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
That's what I too originally meant (sorry if that wasn't clear), youtube always auto-plays videos in HTML5 even with media.autoplay.enabled set to false -regardless of Shumway.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
Isn't that what I said? media.autoplay.enabled does not work on YouTube. Period. Never has. They are purposefully bypassing the browser behavior. That is YouTube playing dirty. There are plenty of HTML5 sample websites that it does work.
However, YouTube now has an option (it moves around through) somewhere on the page or in the gear menu on the video and allows you to disable autoplay. It appears for Flash video, not sure if that works at all with Shumway or even HTML5.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
that button disables the autoplay for a new youtube feature, which automatically starts playing the next video when you finish watching the current one.
it doesnt disable the autoplay of newly opened youtube videos.

Re: Shumway - PDF.js for Flash
Is there any way to use Shumway for some certain webpages in Firefox beta with Shumway extension? There is no "settings" in extension or in about:config for this. Don't know how to use it.
