Re: Australis customization (or lack of thereof)
Assuming that they would back out and merge back the day the train leaves, there wouldn't be any breakage because the nightlies wouldn't have a chance to spin in the timeframe.

Re: Australis customization (or lack of thereof)
We're planning to land in 25, but also to back-out immediately after the
uplift to Aurora (Aug 5th). Australis will stay on mozilla-central
(only) until Firefox 26 uplifts to Aurora (Sep 16th), with intent to
ride the 26 train thru to release. In other words, Australis will be in
Firefox 25 Nightly builds soon, but will not go to Firefox 25 Aurora (or
Beta, or Release). That gives ~10 weeks of m-c bake time before 26
uplift, instead of the ~4 we have for 25.

I somehow doubt this is going to end well .

How dare they make sure things are working before moving on to more stable development channels! The absolute nerve!

Re: Australis customization (or lack of thereof)
The following part is interesting:
How many addon-devs are actually keeping their addons/extensions/plugins/applepies compatible with nightly?
Getting Australis into
mozilla-central will spur on add-on developers to make fixes in a way
that lingering on a project branch won't.

More than the ones that keep their addons/extensions/plugins/applepies compatible with ux-branch...

That's a very good point indeed, kinda puts in perspective how far we can be from average on this forum -however,you kinda missed the point of my question:how many people, given the choice, would opt for Australis over our current Firefox,in the assumption that it "fixes" so many "issues" of the current browser?
The truth being,IMHO,that it would be foisted on us all ("average" or "experienced") and no one will have the choice to really evaluate if it is really needed or it is better than the current release in any way.
They are even backpedalling on the few things that actually were an improvement, like click-to-play:before the user base has a chance to use it,someone has already come up with the idea that it may be "too complicated" and now they're going to ruin it for this assumption

Re: Australis customization (or lack of thereof)
Actually it doesn't make much sense to keep an add-on compatible to ux-branch. By the time an uploaded add-on version (day abc) gets reviewed (day abc + x days) it doesn't work properly with the latest ux version anyway. I wanted to keep my theme compatible to UX. That for I had to change btw. update the code for 'Customize' area and panel menu at least once a week. It was not worth the effort, so I dropped it.
The funny part (for theme devs) will be after Australis enters 25 nightly channel and gets removed again on aurora channel. How to keep it compatible with two 'different' 25 versions, the upcoming nightly 25 and aurora 25 in about a month?

That's easy, don't update them for Nightly. Park on Aurora.

temp
Can anybody provide a update of the status of Australis?
There have been no meetings the last 2 weeks because of several reasons
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Austra ... ting_Notes
Why aren't the meetings rescheduled to the day after? 2 weeks no update is a long time...
Would be nice to know what progress and forecast is

Yes... Menu bar will stay in Australis... for now... but who knows when they change their mind and also removed this feature

If they remove the menu bar, then they will have to find new homes for some of the items that currently aren't duplicated anywhere else.

Or they could use that great one-liner that seems to be their favorite.
