Steps:
- Load http://jar.theice.com/12950/ICEWeb.jar

Result:
Nightly displays gibberish into the view port.

Expected result:
Nightly offers to download the file like IE does.

Confirms, please?

Known issue or server miss configuration?

Linux vs. Windows issue? OMTC issue?

OMTC has nothing to do with handling files.

Also, the server at that link responds with plain/text mimetype instead of application/octet-stream like its supposed to for downloadable files.

One would think, but it is a difference between Linux and Windows IIRC.

I used the Network Panel in Dev Tools.(CTRL-SHIFT-K)

The response header had "text/plain" displayed as the mimetype. Gecko in general is usually strict about mimetypes. In this case, the mimetype on that server is wrong but Gecko doesn't care because it was told text/plain. But Gecko also uses JAR files so it was probably programmed to download by default instead of display as a safety measure. Maybe an extension is overriding the behavior or a previous bug in nightly?

Here's the response:

Code: Select all

Connection: Keep-Alive
Content-Length: 26578106
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
