Weather.com

Post by streetwolf »

I'm having a strange problem with videos on weather.com. In order to play them I have to scroll down the page with the video until the page fills in. I then go back to the top where the video is and it will begin to play after a few seconds.

Anyone else seeing this? Here's one such video... http://www.weather.com/series/crazimals ... itor-picks

Played OK here. I did unblock the flash in 'Flashblock' before loading the page, and it took a few seconds but the ad played then went right to video. I made a point to not touch the mouse during the page load and left the cursor in the tab-bar to be sure.

Latest hourly win32 here.

Looks like it's my adblocker, AdGuard. For some reason weather.com and AdGuard don't play nice together.

In Nightly, for videos to play on weather.com, I have to disable Tracking Protection and Adblock Plus.
Linux Desktop - AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 455 3.3GHz | 8.0GB RAM | GeForce GT 630
Windows Notebook - AMD A8 7410 2.2GHz | 6.0GB RAM | AMD Radeon R5

I see the same behavior with Aurora instead of Nightly and with µBlock Origin instead of AdBlock Plus: if either tracking protection or ad-blocker are enabled, the videos don't load and play. This is on Linux.

Not to beat a dead horse but another anomaly I see is that forecast times/dates are sometimes not correct. This morning I still had the same forecast from last night. This also seems to be caused by AdGuard in my case.

I don't think it's a rule. I disabled all my filters and still had the same problems. It is something with the ad blocker process itself not the rules. In one case I get a blank page when I went to guru3d.com. I had to add firefox.exe to Windows Defender exclusion list to fix the problem.

Weather.com doesn't seem to get along with AdBlockers for some reason. Also, does anyone know why the whole page doesn't load at once? I have to scroll down so the other stuff on the page fills in. Is there a pref that controls this?

Disabled ublock origin for the site, video plays immediately = ruleset issue.

"does anyone know why the whole page doesn't load at once? "

That is called lazyloading.
