New Empty Tab When I Go To Facebook Shortcut

Post by roban »

This only happens from a shortcut. Facebook opens with new tab plus the FB page. I have tried the reset and every other suggestion I have seen. Options/General/Homepage is set to Mozilla Start Page only. I am using the Beta 49.0b7 version with no addons.

You tried the reset of what, Firefox?

Have you checked the properties of the shortcut itself, as those could include the additional URL?

I did a reset of Firefox. The properties of the shortcut look normal to me. If I open Facebook while in Firefox I have no problem it's only from a shortcut. I have created new shortcuts and get the same new tab opening along with the FB page.

How are you creating the shortcuts?

Just how does your shortcut read?
Do other desktop shortcuts do likewise?

No, other shortcuts open normally. How does it read? I'm not sure what you mean by that.

What is the full text of the entry for "URL" in the properties dialogue of the shortcut?

I don't know what to make of that?
On XP & Win7, I see a 'Web Document' tab, which then shows the actual URL: that is to be opened.
(There are slight differences between XP/7.)

Win10, I've got no clue?

Code: Select all

Perl Compatible Regular Expressions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.URL

Code: Select all

[InternetShortcut]
URL=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perl_Compatible_Regular_Expressions
Check the actual shortcut file .URL, maybe it has two URL= listed, if that can be (don't know)?

Code: Select all

[InternetShortcut]
URL=https://www.facebook.com/
URL=http://

Win10 must be a whole lot diff. from Win 7 when it comes to looking at shortcuts? ... a Win10 posted will have to clear that up for me....as in... I just checked out that Details area of one of my shortcuts and the name of my computer is in that Computer line... where you have the Facebook link... strange.

In fact... my shortcuts have 6 tabs when I display properties... and one of those tabs is Shortcut... and in that Shortcut info is the target URL...

So as I mentioned ... maybe Win10 is diff from Win7 in that regards? Also, do all of your desktop shortcuts only have 5 tabs?

Yes they are all the same. Only 4 tabs. :0(

I think this is a FF glitch as it does not occur with Chrome or IE. I am using a Beta version of FF because the stable release would not open Facebook at all and I learned from Mozilla that this was a problem they were working on. They suggested I download this beta version which solved that problem. There is another shortcut I use to a site that probably has something in common with Facebook because a new tab opens with that shortcut as well. It is to a Meraki router with a few AP's and I check the connectivity of the AP's.

This is not a big deal. I just thought there might be a workaround.
