Well how about that. I *think* that I finally have a problem. The script bug sounds like something that I have been seeing.

Yeah!! :-)

First, Mozilla doesn't do 6 or 8 week releases, they have 18-24 week releases, overlapped.

The problem isn't the release cycle, it's insufficient testing. Before making a change in an area Mozilla should ensure the area has good, automated functional and performance tests, and each new change should come with additional tests. Browsers are complex and need extensive test suites to maintain quality.

(At work most of our release cycles are a month. We keep making the bar for merging higher and keep it easy to pull a bad merge, And other companies go faster. Netflix say 16 minutes commit to deploy feels like an impediment to rapid innovation.)

@Virtual_ManPL , turned out I better followed the advise given directly instead of stubbornly avoiding to try a blank profile immediately.
With a blank profile I no longer encounter any visible hangs, so your problem is most probably something completely different to what mine was.

@ Peja Stija - Could be or not :P
I reopened bug, as when I go back to stable Firefox version I didn't encounter any more hangs, so it's hard for me to believe that my profile is broken or some extensions are causing this. What's more I was not alone with these hangs.

Tired of constant Firefox UI changes? XUL extensions are not working anymore? Try SeaMonkey, Waterfox Classic, Pale Moon.

Well, i'm in the process of re-enabling all add-ons I disabled for the hang problem to go away (every couple of hours I re-enable one more), perhaps it might give you some insights since you're also experiencing hangs *with* add-ons.

So far, the add-ons which are still on my "suspect list" for the hangs are :

- Cookie Monster
- Cookies Manager+
- DOM Inspector
-Favicon Restorer
- Findbar Tweak
- Go Parent Folder
- Reload Plus
- Self-Destructing Cookies
- Session Manager
- Tab Groups

For daily browsing I have enabled only these extensions:
- Classic Theme Restorer
- Decentraleyes
- Don't track me Google
- DownThemAll!
- h264ify
- Session Manager
- uBlock Origin
so I only have Session Manager in common.

I don't see any service worker registered for gmail in about:serviceworkers (in fact there's no entry in there).
Do you know what gmail service workers this is bug about?
'(Firefox for desktop) list fixed bugs in Mercurial' userscript:
as a list: v4.2.2 and, as a sortable table: either v5.5.4 (for all channel users) or v5.5.4 (especially for inbound users).
My other userscripts: GreasyFork OpenUserJS
