This is a non-user facing change, why do you care this much? If you see an extra process in your task manager, it's enabled. If you don't, it's not. It you weren't experiencing lots of driver crashes before, it shouldn't really matter to you.

Of course, that can be seen in the 2nd screenshot in my previous post.

I explain the reasons why in the bug that I filed.

As I was explained in the bug I reported, the GPU process is indeed enabled for me:
if you start firefox with an empty tab, then there are only 2 processes at that point (the 2nd one is the GPU process).
A 3rd, the GPU content process, is launched after you navigate to any page.

And, as I see this was requested by a few people already, I'm glad that a patch to show the compositor process PID in about:support, in all channels, not just in Nightly,
has already (yesterday) been created (and landed in inbound a few hours later) in bug 1358138 - consider adding GPU process information to about:support.
I hope this will be available in FF 54 stable.
(the 'Terminate GPU process' button will remain for the time being in nightly only, as I was informed)

'(Firefox for desktop) list fixed bugs in Mercurial' userscript:
as a list: v4.2.2 and, as a sortable table: either v5.5.4 (for all channel users) or v5.5.4 (especially for inbound users).

Actually if you are seeing two processes the 3rd one that spins up will be the content process

Thank you for the correction.

The patch I mentioned above, makes the compositor process PID in about:support be shown in all channels (not just in Nightly, as it currently is).
It was created yesterday and landed in inbound a few hours later.
