FYI: Win Nightly builds are out:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0 ID:20170117030218 CSet: 3e275d37a06236981bff399b7d7aa0646be3fee7

How do I migrate from this version:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0 ID:20170112171116 CSet: 09142d07fd735e375fc1ae46886a52d6aef43b60

to a corresponding 64 bit version? Do I do a full uninstall, then install from a different download? Will it just pick up where the other left off and use the same profile?

Thanks.

32-bit & 64-bit software install in different folders on Windows systems. If you have Fx 32-bit installed, when you install Fx 64-bit, you will have both installed on your system.

If you choose to only have one version installed, you will have to uninstall the version you do not want to keep on your system. So long as you do not delete your profile, it should work fine with the version you keep on your system.

Yes, you will have to download the 64-bit version to then install it.

I understand they install in different places. I did not know you could have both at once. Is there a single installer which asks (or knows) which version, or is this something we need to choose ourselves? Is there any reason to choose 32 over 64 or vice versa?

On Windows 64-bit OS's, (typically) on the C: drive there will be a "Program Files" and a "Program Files (x86)" folder. The former is for any 64-bit programs installed on the system and latter for 32-bit programs.

Mozilla produces separate installer files for 32-bit and 64-bit Firefox. The user then decides which to download and install.

There may other advantages that I am not aware of, but, IIRC, 64-bit systems have better memory usage capabilities compared to 32-bit. In theory, 64-bit Fx should be better able to utilize those capabilities.
