dom.script_loader.bytecode_cache.enabled is in nightly for 5% of users. Supposed to give a speedup.

FishBowl (No. of fish - auto setting)
01-Jun 5,100
02-Jun 800

Mr. Potato Gun
05-May 40,000
06-May 22,000

01-Jun 22,000
02-Jun 12,000

All testing with x64 builds
(54.0.1 - 5,100 Fish | 40,000 Potato Score)

I haven't got a release version installed atm but I'm getting higher results with Firefox Nightly than Edge even with a webgame and a few tabs open and a non-browser game open. 1240 auto fish in FF56 vs 1087 in Edge. ~27000 in Potato shooter vs ~8500 in Edge. This is with a FX8320 and a HD5750 (my 7970 needs a baking). Looking at your previous results your hardware is stronger so it may be that it's defaulting to integrated graphics?

Comparing my results to your post-regression results seems to be similar to where an overclocked 5750 would put a fairly recent Intel iGPU.
What does your about:support look like?

Any idea how the 5% are selected or just full random?

Unsure. I found out via this post http://www.chesnok.com/daily/2017/07/03 ... 7-summary/

Apparently you can also enable background tab throttling but I cannot find the pref for it

From the patch:
Deduct timeout execution time from a continuously regenerating
execution budget. Then throttle timeouts by using that budget in
TimeoutManager::MinSchedulingDelay to adjust the minimum value if
the budget is negative. The minimum value is adjusted to be a
value where the budget would have regenerated to be +0 ms.

The execution budget is clamped by values in ms defined in prefs:

* dom.timeout.background_throttling_max_budget: 50
* dom.timeout.foreground_throttling_max_budget: -1

A value equal or less than 0 means that the budget is infinite.

The regeneration rate can be controlled by the following prefs:

* dom.timeout.background_budget_regeneration_rate
* dom.timeout.foreground_budget_regeneration_rate

one each for foreground and background throttling.

To not starve timeouts indefinitely we clamp the minimum delay using
the pref:

* dom.timeout.budget_throttling_max_delay: 15000

The feature is behind the pref:

* dom.timeout.enable_budget_timer_throttling

Looks a little tricky to manually configure...

I've got another weird really obscure bug. No matter how many times I visit omgubuntu.co.uk it will not add itself to my top sites drop down.

Thanks for checking. Two profiles and it's not adding for me.

Are you talking about the drop-down from the URL bar ? I've been seeing that for some time now, last visited site is not at top of list. I thought I read they were going to do away with the drop-down so never pursued where/when it went broke.
