If anyone who has Tampermonkey installed can try reproduce this insta-browser crash bug ? 10 tries, 10 insta-crashes.

STR:
- Have Tampermonkey extension enabled, doesn't matter if there are scripts enabled or not.
- Open link below results in a instant browser crash repetitively.

hxxps://youtu.be/U_RdQm1rcaE

Reported on Tampermonkey forum : https://forum.tampermonkey.net/viewtopi ... =17&t=2347
(The above YouTube link https: was changed to hxxps: to avoid accidental clicking on it to crash the browser.)

Nightly: Confirmed! (entire browser crashes)

Release: Confirmed! (Tab crashes)

I just installed the beta Tampermonkey on AMO on a new Nightly profile, made zero customizations and the above link prompts for me to log on to YouTube. After signing on to YouTube, it causes Firefox Nightly 59.0a1 (2017-12-02) (64-bit) under Windows 7 (64-bit) to crash immediately.

Firefox Nightly does not crash in safe mode. (Safe mode temporarily disables extensions.)

Firefox Nightly does not crash when Tampermonkey is disabled on the about:config page.

I then created a new Release Profile for Firefox 57.0.1 (64-bit) (still under Windows 7 (64-bit)). Tried the YouTube video, had to log in to YouTube, and the video played just fine. (No Tampermonkey installed yet.)

I then installed the Tampermonkey beta from AMO development channel, restarted Firefox 57.0.1, clicked on the above YouTube video, and immediately got the "Gah. Your tab just crashed" message.

So it looks like this bug is not limited to just Nightly, though Nightly does a worse job at handling the crash.

I don't have logon credentials for forum.tampermonkey.net, so feel free to quote this post over there or provide a pointer to this post; knowing the problem isn't Nightly-specific would, IMHO, be useful information for the developers of Tampermonkey.

Personally, I use Violentmonkey and the first time I tried that YouTube link it was with my regular Nightly profile (including Violentmonkey) and the first part of the video played just fine, but I had closed the video about the time it got to the second decade.

I will, thanks for confirming Mark ! The crash log doesn't point to anything I have proper knowledge of, filing a bugreport on Mozilla is something I'm very erratic in, but anyway, question now is, I don't know who of the 2 is at fault here & should a WebExtension be able to completely crash Firefox ?

It should be more difficult for a WebExtension extension to crash Firefox, but not impossible. At this point I am inclined to leave it to the Tampermonkey developers to investigate further and let them file a Bugzilla report if they think the crash is a bug on the Firefox side.
