No, haven't seen that until now. Doesn't really lend anything to this problem, though.Mouse4 wrote:did you bother to read the release notes of 58? my guess is no https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/5 ... easenotes/DN123ABC wrote:Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:58.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/58.0

I must be thick or something. Just say what you're trying to say. I have no idea what you are getting at.Mouse4 wrote:correct me if im wrong but yyou did say this http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14783810 down the bottom of that post
Stuck on 58 "beta". But, I just downloaded latest "beta" manually, and that installed OK.

This is normal on the beta channel. Once it gets to release candidate stage the word "beta" is removed and you get the release candidate(s). You will still be on the beta channel. A few days after 58 is released you will be automatically updated to the latest 59 beta.
If you really want to switch to 59 beta when it first appears you can use the developer version.

currently there exist no 59beta, and 58 final is upcoming. it is not wise to skip 58 final because beta is cool. v59 introduces some new features but the average user wont notice them - same as he wont notice fixes in v58.

Of course the average user notices features like Javascript Bytecode Cache or faster painting. Even if only subconsciously and combined with other improvements.

Unless the user wants to use the Developer Edition.Brummelchen wrote:currently there exist no 59beta, and 58 final is upcoming. it is not wise to skip 58 final because beta is cool. v59 introduces some new features but the average user wont notice them - same as he wont notice fixes in v58.

OK, so 58 is indeed still "beta", even though it does not say so? Why would they do it that way?Tony-E wrote:This is normal on the beta channel. I have no idea on the former, but faster is always better. In place of "faster", I'm just looking for "less slow". I think it is somehow memory related. How do I test/report memory bugs in Firefox?Lurtz wrote:Of course the average user notices features like Javascript Bytecode Cache or faster painting. Re: Beta stopped at 57, go on?
The final stage of beta testing is checking the version that is due to be released, this is the release candidate. Providing no issues are found, the release candidate will become Firefox 58 final. It is quite common for there to be several release candidates as they fix issues.DN123ABC wrote:OK, so 58 is indeed still "beta", even though it does not say so? Yeah, but didn't it still say "RC" with the name, so at least you would know? I seem to recall it also said which "channel" you were on. When did that change, and why?

I don't recall it ever indicating it was a "RC" with the name.DN123ABC wrote:Yeah, but didn't it still say "RC" with the name, so at least you would know? I seem to recall it also said which "channel" you were on. When did that change, and why?
My Help > about:firefox still indicates I am currently on the beta update channel, so does about:support aka Help > Troubleshooting Information.
