The first time I wondered if I had a virus, but it looks like something has changed so extensions are being suggested and robbing valuable Address Bar space to tell me so.

Is there a way to turn this off?
Recommendations are powered by a preference. It is possible that Mozilla will add a setting to Firefox's options to give users easier control over the functionality.

Load about:config?filter=browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.asrouterExperimentEnabled in the Firefox address bar.
Confirm that you will be careful.
Double-click on the preference name to toggle its value.
Restart Firefox.

A value of True means that Firefox will display extension recommendations, a value of false that it won't do that.

Thank you. It was false this morning after the morning update, but I haven't been on Firefox since then, and tonight when I got home and it updated, it was not even present in about:config. So apparently it was just that one build where it got away from them and started recommending extensions.

Latest libaom update has 720p running flawless but 1080p still has issues but nowhere near as bad now.

Recently on two different occasions this week I have noticed that Firefox hasn't remembered some links I have visited, most recently it forgot a link I had visited yesterday morning. I am not set up to forget recently visited. In Menu -> Options -> "Privacy & Security", "History" I have checkmarked "Remember browsing and download history", and checkmarked "Clear History when Nightly closes" with the "Settings..." next to it with

Code: Select all

  History

  [ ] Browsing & Download History [ ] Cookies
  [x] Active Logons [x] Cache
  [x] Forms & search History

  Data

  [ ] Site Preferences [ ] Offline Website Data
There have been no recent crashes.

I don't have a method of reproducing the loss of recent history ... yet.

I normally have several tabs open at the same time and dom.ipc.processCount set high enough that each tab has its own content process.

The only thing that immediately comes to mind is that yesterday in about:support I did click on Places Database -> Verify Integrity, which came up clean. I'll have to check out if this has the side effect of forgetting the history of the current session up to where integrity was verified, but quick-and-dirty testing with a new profile doesn't cause this, whether done before or after a link was clicked on. I'll have to retest tomorrow to see if the size of the places.sqlite makes a difference in this behavior, since my real places.sqlite takes several seconds to have its integrity verified, but the new profile's places.sqlite was taking subsecond to verify.

Upside is that libaom is continuously updated from the AOM repository.

It'll get better eventually, I'm hoping Google starts doing AV1 encodes for popular videos soon, even if it's just for 360p and 480p.
