Problem with Google Maps

Post by streetwolf »

Once I get into GM and even onto other sites thereafter, exiting Fx keeps a Nightly process running as shown in Task Manager for about 7 seconds. If I start Fx before 7 seconds I usually get a message that I must close Fx because it is running.

Anyone having this issue?

Tried GM in safe mode. After exiting Fx one Nightly process was still running for ~7 seconds.

I can confirm this.
It's due to telemetry and if I remembering it correctly, it's caused by PingSender.exe.
You may want to disable it by setting "toolkit.telemetry.shutdownPingSender.enabled" to "false" in about:config.

I already have it set to false. Any other suggestions. It was working fine before today's update.

I even deleted pingsender.exe and the problem still exists. I think the problem lies elsewhere.

Nailed the problem with Google Maps. I set browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false and there is no Nightly process running after I exit Fx. Fx then starts up immediately. So WR is the culprit. Knowing this can anyone suggest a fix without disabling WR across the board? My bug report has gone unanswered. If anyone is having this problem please add to my bug report. Perhaps having more folks confirming the problem will get someone to look into it.

You mean browser.tabs.remote.autostart disables multiprocess, not webrender, don't you? I had for a long time already had toolkit.telemetry.shutdownPingSender.enabled set to false. I did notice pingsender.exe launch on shutdown even though this was false but I don't know if it had network activity. I changed a few more settings I am not sure which, perhaps toolkit.telemetry.updatePing.enabled and toolkit.telemetry.bhrPing.enabled, and after that I am not seeing pingsender opening.

If you look at about:support you will see it no longer says Webrender for Compositing. It says Direct3D 11 (Advanced Layers). So it does disable WR. Perhaps turning off multi-process also turns off WR. I notice with the pref set to false there is only one process running. My guess it is multi-process that is the cause.

Setting the pref to false also fixes another problem. Some of my add-on icons display empty menus when the pref is true. Set to false they display properly.

Is someone able to update my bug report as confirmed if they also have the problem?
