Is there a pref to turn off this NEW bookmarks bar in the 'New Tab' page. I have not used the bookmarks bar in years, and I don't need it now. More 'chrome copy-cat-coding' :(

It's in the same place as menu bars have always been controlled: right-click in any free space in one of the other top bars.

There are now three choices: on, off, and only on new tab page.

I tried it for five minutes, filed a bug report, and disable it.

Thanks, set it to 'Never' and its gone. I'm not seeing any flash however when opening a new tab.
