Does anyone know how to force "Always ask" behavior for a specific file type? I want to open temporary files without saving them to a specific location, but Firefox proceeds to display the save file dialog without asking. When I go to about:preferences#general to change the behavior for the file type, there's a list of file types, but it's fixed -- nothing can be added to the list, and the mimetype I'm looking for is not there... Is this a bug? I don't mind saving file as the default behavior, but the inability to override it for specific file types (unless I'm missing something) looks like a regression.

Yes, the whole new download experience is a regression. Please put something in Bugzilla.

Right click the file in Downloads Panel, either from the toolbar or Library, and select "Always Open xxxx". After that that specific file type is added to the list in about:preferences#general.

FYI, there will be no more "temporary files". All downloaded/opened files will not be deleted automatically when quitting the browser.
[WONTFIX] Bug 1741929 - Downloaded file no longer deletes automatically when quitting / exiting the browser (with download improvements turned on)
