gcc3 Builds and Java

Post by edcatmur »

For those who build your own installations of Phoenix (or, for that matter, Mozilla)

You may have noticed that the Sun Java Plugin doesn't work (it's built with gcc2 whereas most modern distros use gcc3)

I have successfully built the plugin by following the instructions at http://tushar.lfsforum.org/javafromscratch.txt - it did take a few hours to get it to compile successfully, much of which was due to my own inexperience and inability to follow instructions to the letter.

I now have no need to use any other browser! :)

Sun will be releasing a version compiled with GCC 3 at some point soon.
